Haven't we learnt a lesson about taking a player as a make-weight?

Cash only.

It's just as easy to buy a shit player as to get one as a make-weight.

Utopia would be a swap for Milner

I'd rather keep Ash, he's a brilliant player and one the board should spunk money at to make sure he stays.

I still think he'll leave though, sadly.

They need cover for Bale and Lennon at the moment so will be happy to pay it. So unless Spurs pay up, 12 mill will be the price for a choice of teams.

AY has had a better league season than Bale playing for a struggling side. No way is he a cover player and I think he'd tell Spurs to do one if it meant playing understudy to Bale.

Utopia would be to keep Ash, resign Milner, sign Kim Kallstrom and a couple of extremely good defenders (and a new goalkeeper).

The way Young celebrated our winner today he did't look like a player wanting to leave.
[/quote]

That doesnt mean anything, remember gareth barry celebrating at upton park a couple of seasons ago before he wanted to leave for liverpool?

I think ash is as good as gone, we need to get the best deal possible!

Going back to the whole "we'll only get peanuts because he's got one year left on his contract" - there are rumours today that Arsenal will sell Samir Nasri in the summer because he only has one year left as well.

How much do people think they are likely to get for him? I bet the likes of £25m+ will still be thrown around even with only 12 months left on his deal.

Can't see an obvious swap deal and you often wonder if the players hearts in it. Think he'llwant CL football, but would take kranjkar from spuds.

A like for like replacement would be N'zogbia who
looks good for me. But we might decide we need a
second striker or proper number 10 instead. In which
case kranjkar, petric, bojan, sturridge, dembele, gervinho, zidan.

But other areas take priority. We could decide that albrighton or gabby come in for him.

I would think N'Zogbia must be on the radar to replace him. Or there will be someone Houllier has in mind.

The only way Spurs or Liverpool would have a chance of signing Ashley Young would be if they get into the Champions' League.  Those chances are slim to zero in the case of Liverpool.

With his celebration and the fact that he'd got his dr.dre headphones in claret suggest to me that he's going nowhere. I'd love him to stay, even if he only signs a 2 year extension with an agreement that he can go in 2 years if he so wishes, for an acceptable fee. I think from an attacking point of view we can get rid of Carew and Heskey in the summer and sign a younger version of them, and otherwise keep it the same.

If his heart is not in the club then let him go and re sign Milner....he's got loads more energy and better defencive and tracking back qualities

Yes, but that's hardly because Young's are so bad. In fact one of the best things about him is how remarkably hard he works. Him and Milner on the wings were a big part of why we almost never conceded from crosses one year. We conceded from everything else, mind, but rarely crosses.
