Let the rags have their euro "glory" next season, we can watch them crash and burn, while we re-establish ourselves amongst the elite!

Their finances could still screw them up for European competition.

No, the FA Cup must have a European place so that will go to whichever of Bolton or Stoke get to the final.

If Man City win the FA Cup & finish fifth, which takes precedence. Or more to the point, as the Europa League will have the FA Cup winners already will they also take the runners up or will it be a league place?

Ah yes.  The euphoria of two wins on the trot has obviously gone to my brain!

On the basis that 7th this year -for the first time in years- isn't enough to get Europe, put us down for that.

If Man City finish 5th and win the cup, that makes 7th a European place does it not?  Terrible thing though to be hoping for Spurs to finish 4th and Man City to win silverware.

No as the runners up in the FA cup get the other European place. Bolton or Stoke would need to finish 5th in for another place to open up.

What it means is - if Man C win cup and finish 5th they get Europa spot for FA Cup - then 6th gets a Europa spot. We could in theory catch the bindippers - would make the last game fun if we were 2 pts behind them

Qualifying via the league takes priority, so it means Stoke or Bolton qualify. 6th place cannot qualify for Europe this season as far as i'm aware.

My euphoria is starting to wear off a bit. A bloke on the bus just tried to start a conversation with me and I told him straight out that I wasn't interested. We are now sitting side by side in total silence. I am enjoying how uncomfortable this is.

Absolutely superb result. How we didn't get more than 1 goal 2nd half i'll never know. The main thing is we're near enough safe and to the snidey little twerp who tried to ruin our season before it had started, fuck you and the longball hoofy horse you rode in on. Still, there's always the job of getting west ham out of the championship - i'm sure its yours if you want it

As for GH, he's earned the right to have another go, but no excuses next season. if the reserves aren't good enough to fill in for injuries - buy new ones. If there's players causing problems - sell them this summer. Bottom line is we expect a significant improvement come this time next year.

Just got back, great win, great day, great travelling support as always
Credit to Houllier for playing NRC & Petrov and dropping Makoun, we looked better for it
Full credit for bringing Heskey back in and using Gabby wisely as a sub
Cant see West Ham surviving now

I can't really understand why some people still want to talk about the ex-manager, in a victorious post game thread 9 months on. Still, what ever floats your boat.

I agree with most of what you'd said there Greg. However, while we all expect more next season, if he's building something then surely the important thing is see improvement and more importantly consistency. That he creates a base from which to build. Yes, get rid of all of the crap that have no future, but there will also be a period at the start where the new players bed in. I hope we show a collective patience as they come together.

yeah I don't expect we'll see "his" team next season but i want a few more of the existing players showing they can adapt to playing his style at least. we've flirted with relegation this season and I don't expect us to next

The challenge will be replacing Ash in the summer and keeping things positive
