Seem to be getting plenty of swing this morning - I fancy us to skittle them out not long after lunch.

A couple of perfect illustrations as to why the review system creates more problems than it solves.

This whole "Umpires Call" aspect seems a bit pointless to me.  Why have the technology and only half trust it.

It also seems that Umpires are airing on the side of extreme caution with LBW decisions.  I can't believe the Anderson one wasn't initially given out.

I agree with the Reviews system but they need to add Snick-O-Meter.

I think the review system is good in theory.

However if a batsman is given not out, then its reviewed and it shows the ball smashing the bails full on, it should then be given out IMO.

Anyway, the cricket itself has been pretty ordinary from an England point of view.  Anderson was bowling very nicely and probably would have taken another wicket or two with the new ball if not for injury.

Broad has been woeful.  He has a lot of talent but puts in far too many of these types of performances.  As the commentators said earlier it does appear he is an automatic selection.  He needs to start producing.

Tremlett's looked okay at times, not so much at others.

Strauss's captaincy has been fantastic so far, but I can't see the logic of bowling Trott before the new ball.  It just gifted 40 runs to Sri Lanka.

That would take a complete change of the LBW rules regarding pitching and hitting outside the line.
Maybe it is time to take a look at this if they really do have full confidence in Hawkeye, but then you would have to have a completely different set of laws for games where the referal system isn't used.

My preference would be to just get rid of the review system.  I think the quality of umpiring at the test level is of a generally very high standard anyway.  I'm also a bit worried that a lot of umpires could become "not outers", knowing the way the system works.

I agree with the Reviews system but they need to add Snick-O-Meter.

According to Bumble during yesterdays coverage, it takes too long to put the Snicko sound file together. I was watching it live and it was over 5 minutes from when Sangakkara was given out and left the field of play to when Sky showed the Snicko graphic. This would give us an unacceptably long break in play whilst the decision was reviewed.

I don't know why it takes so long to compile the sound file, it seems odd to me but it's the excuse that the good burghers of the ICC are hiding behind.

I think that the review systems are a good idea but think that sides have not yet quite cracked the best way to use them. We wasted two reviews today off Broad which would have proved useful later on in the innings when Swann was bowling. Broad seems convinced that every LBW shout off his bowling is out. He looks mortified when the umpire says not out. Looks to me like Broad needs to learn the LBW rule.

The waters are further muddied by the point that some of the hosting broadcasters do not have Sky's financial resources and cannot afford to provide Hawkeye and Snicko. Time to cough up ICC!

The problem with a fast bowler like Broad is that by the time the ball hits the pads he has ran well off the pitch and is no longer in line, it might look plumb to him but he's at all the wrong angle to really tell.
It would be better for him to leave it up to the captain and especially Prior behind the stumps.

Well an ordinary day turns into a pretty poor one after Strauss getting out.  Shouldn't lose this match though.  No way should we be bowled out twice by a weak attack.

At least Anderson isn't injured.  Absolutely no way that England would risk their best bowler further injuring himself by sending him out as Nightwatchman.  That would be unfathomably stupid.

Not a good day, but we tend to struggle in Cardiff. We need to fight back tomorrow.

They need to look @ a few things.........the bowlers havnt played enough cricket so far and to go in with just 4 is asking for trouble, we wont challenge India with just 4 bowlers and Broad/Tremlett offer no variety

Well we're down to 3 bowlers now then for the rest of this match - Anderson has a Grade 1 Side Strain so no more bowling for him.
