Boro and Blackburn away 1988
« on: March 25, 2011, 12:08:29 AM »
Not sure if these have been posted before, apologies if they have.

I'm pretty sure the Boro game was the first non top flight league game shown live on TV. Typical Villa, we lost them both, what felt like our only away defeats that season.

I was at the Blackburn game.  The atmosphere was a bit loony as I remember and the game a cracker. At the end the Villa end were singing Blackburn can you run - nice. Platt made his debut but noone around me was sure whether it was Platt or Gareth Williams who had just been signed from the Isle of Wight or somewhere. It was a shock that Platt was playing as GT dropped McInally to play him upfront alongside Thompson (confirmation of how McInally only really had a good half a season at Villa)

Watch out for Chrissy Price celebrating Blackburn's first.

Great atmosphere at the Boro game. I'm sure it was on Feb 14th as well. My vague recollections of it were that we were 1 up, in control and then conceded two goals  (Mowbray both?) and then never got back into it.

Im remember taping the boro game and watching it over and over, even though we lost.

Wasn't their a flag with Villa Revolution on it? That phrase has always stuck with me.

I went to both those games, pretty sure Bernie Slavin scored one the goals in the Boro game. Nice place, as has been discussed many times on here.

Slept at Darlington train station on the saturday night to make that one.

It was. Apart from the fact is shows it a couple of times on the video, I remember that we passed someone on the way up who had a "Valentine's Day Massacre" banner in the back of ther car.

This was when I started to travel away religiously on the supporters coaches.

I was at the Littlewoods Cup match up there on a midweek night - there must've been about 150 of us at the most, I was a this one and I was away at Blackburn amongst others.

I was at both of those matches, travelled from Newcastle where i was a student.

The Blackburn match was a cracking day out, despite the result, but Boro all i really remember is being quite frightened the entire day. There weren't very many of us there, either.

For the cup game the only way we could get to in was on the official supporters club coach. We were read the riot act for playing football at the services.Has it changed any?

Boro away was awesome. It was Valentines Day. I remember being stared at by skinheads for 90 minutes! Stood in front of our seats didnt realise till half way through the second half they had allowed everyone in the seats! Shit it all the way back to the station I was only 16!
