I'd like Bilic as mentioned above. Not that I think he'd be any good but for his air of louche insouciance, standing in the dug-out smoking a fag and reading a 1950s pulp detective novel.

on this basis I'd like Bilic as well.

Me too. Anyone who can get smoking at Villa Park legalised gets my vote. God knows I need something for the stress. A few weeks ago a steward banned me from even rolling one to light up on my way home. I said "Show me the rule that says I can't roll a fag and I'll stop". He said 'some people don't like the smell of the tobacco', so I said 'you brush your teeth and I'll stop rolling fags'.

Everyone? The poll seems to suggest otherwise.

83% don't want him which is pretty conclusive.

83% is not 100% which would be everyone.

The other poll, the one that asks specifically should he be sacked, has a small majority in favour of keeping him at least until the end of the season.

You could always put Ron Saunders in, then even 100% wouldnt be everyone.

Coyle would be good, how much would we have to pay Bolton in compensation though ?

Haven't we got a sell on clause on Cahill?   He seems sure to be cashed in on by Bolton while the London tabloids still love him and scoring two goals against our comedy defending is considered a big deal.

Say they get fifteen million, perhaps our cut would be enough of a spoils pile to oil a Coyle trial.

I love statistics. You can prove anything by selective quoting. How about this one:

The most popular pick of the alternatives to replace GH is Owen Coyle and 79.7% don't want him.

Is this "pretty conclusive" or just "fairly conclusive"?

There is no evidence to say conclusively that 79.7% don't want him. That amount, however, did not suggest him as their first choice. Maybe 70 - 80% of that 79.7% would have him as their second choice, and the rest as their third choice. If this was the case, he would still be a popular choice don't you think? This is if's and but's however, and only a more detailed survey would give us a firm conclusion.

I was really just pointing out that it's not possible to draw such firm conclusions from so little information.

I think Coyle is a promising manager.

I wouldn't mind Houllier moving "upstairs", he could be useful in that position whilst we sort of the rest of the club.  Perhaps that was a part of the plan?  Building the legacy is what Paul Faulkner called it, I believe.

As for the next Manager, appoint someone already in the Premier Division, why bother taking a risk with someone who hasn't ben there for a while or never managed in the Prem?  We did that with Houllier and look where it got us.  For me, it's Coyle, Hughes or Moyes with Bruce a very outside bet.

I still think it's early days to say Coyle is a good manager.

Let's see if he can have a second good season with them, or make the FA Cup final this year.
