Still think it is a complete over reaction by most. How many actually thought we had a chance of winning before the game or on the day the draw was made. Deep down - if you are honest - I would bet 90% thought it was an impossible task. The players left out are being made out to be Messi, Villa and Kaka the way people are going on. They are players people have lambasted a number of times for playing poorly in games this season. 3 players different would not have changed the result, it is a shame that it has opened the door for a load of howls at a manager who appeared to be turning the tide.

El Hadji Diouf red carded after the final whistle. That's three sent off for Rangers  and 4 others booked. 3 celtic booked. Tasty.

I wish we had borrowed some of that passion Mac......

Of course we had chance to win. Man City are in questionable form lately, and Fulham held them to a draw at Eastlands in their last game. What do we do - we make 8 changes to the team who gave us our biggest win of the season and go up to Manchester ad surrender before a ball is even kicked.
An unforgivable night.

You and me both. I think in future Villa should opt out of all cup competitions because we clearly don't want to compete in them. As long as we're in the PL the owners are happy, or so it seems.
Modern football stinks.

Given almost 12 hours to think on it, I'm even more pissed off.

I think it's time to add the word "Ill" to the any of the 'Prepared' logos around Villa Park.

Throwing away the FA Cup is for disrespectful dickheads like Wenger and Alex Ferguson. It is NOT for Aston Villa. EVER!

Shame, Houllier. Shame.

I can't read all comments, because my heart bleeds!
The moment this stupid clueless french idiot closes the door behind his back can't come soon enough for me!
The guy has been seriously misled - he's been told he's going to manage The VILLA and he thought he's going to be the handy man of a sunny summer house. Instead he ended up at a great football club for which he has no idea no desire and no balls to manage. I'm sick of seeing his blank face with eyes going to pop out of his empty brain and head tuck deep into the collar of his winter jacket. It's not a job for you, old crap! Just pack your bags and zipp off as soon as possible!

Certain clubs monopolize the cups already - we just play into their hands fielding weakened teams against them.

Another thing...over the years, Man Utd have had many a team mentally beaten due to their dominance of English football over the last 20 years. That Man City are afforded the same 'over-respect' for having won nothing but the lottery pisses me right off.

Its ironic that we tried to outpass a city team in midfield only  to concede from a corner and a long ball over the top.
seeing how arsenal were beaten last week, is proof that Houllier got it wrong. He should be motivating his strongest team to win, not gambling with untried players .
It sends out all the wrong signals to fans and players, I now fear that Bolton after citeh will be like stoke after Moscow.

Where were Beye, Luke Young and Warnock.  Well worth the £ 140k this week.

Agreed.  There are a lot of issues about last night. I can forgive most of last night, given the circumstances in football today, except the picking of the three strikers.  Any two plus 1 of Downing, Albrighton or Young would have been acceptable.

You know I’ve been a real defender of Houllier throughout the criticism he’s had over the last few months but I simply can’t defend the indefensible. To make so many changes and have such disregard for a trophy that means so much to so many. To not use the fantastic result at the weekend as a catalyst to kick us on. To not use the Carling Cup result as rallying cry to the players to outdo the neighbours. To allow 3k fans to travel on a freezing cold Weds night to Manchester when the club had decided not to bother and then appear post-match without a word of apology to the poor souls who made the journey is nothing short of a disgrace and Houllier should be hanging his head in shame over it.

I don’t want to hear anyone saying that the league is more important because the decisions have all the hallmarks of a team whose only focus is making sure they stay in the Premiership and if that is all we are about then it’s going to be pretty difficult to sell large numbers of season tickets come next season and like many others have said here it’s just another reason why I’m falling rather out of love with the club these days.

Not sure if its already been mentioned, but if he made that many changes in a league game,he would probably get in trouble for fielding a weak team.

Not sure what it does to the younger players confidence, and what must the players left on the bench think of GH?
