Schmeichel

He's also the only goalkeeper I have ever seen who has been flagged up for being in an offside position

I know this one

Tragi-comedy

He was injured when he confronted a dog which had strayed into the goalmouth

correct

a dog ran onto the field of play during a match away to Colchester United and collided with Brodie, breaking his kneecap, an injury which ended his professional career.
Afterwards Brodie summed up the incident by saying that "the dog may have been small.....but it just happened to be solid"

Who won Olympic gold and silver medals on the same day, captained Manchester City and England's amateur football team, scored a century at Lords, won the mens doubles title at Wimbledon, captained the Great Britain Davis Cup team, scored a 147 break in snooker and beat Charlie Chaplin at table tennis with a butter knife?

Alongside Siegfred Sassoon, I can add... having cheated and googled the answer. Not telling though.

How many medals were awarded to Italy for winning the World Cup 2006? The same number of medals were also awarded to France and Germany as runners-up and 3rd place play-off winners respectively.

Probably nearer 30 as I think the coaching staff and maybe some others get one.

I thought CB Fry but I was wrong. Maybe players who played in qualifiers get a medal, in which case I'll guess 45. Or maybe it's a trick question and they got no medals, perhaps they awarded something else instead?

As it's a quick quiz that's ground to a halt I'll tell you that it was Max Woosnam, who was also a scratch golfer it seems.
Here's a link to a review of the book about his life "All-Round Genius - The Unknown Story of Britain’s Greatest Sportsman"
by Mick Collins.
