Quality 200m final.

Unbelieveable. Bolt actually slowed down before he reached the line. Could have easily broken the world record.

Why did he slow down...........
Gareth Barry was walking across the finishing line!

I believe the youngsters call it Birmz these days. Apparently they were thanking the city on R5 after too

Great publicity that.

Woo hoo. You hear Bolt and Weir praising Brum ?

Usain is obviously a Villa fan.
I think we should give him a trial.

Why did he slow down...........

Michael Johnson said that he had looked at the clock and new he wasn't going to break it so he just slowed up.

Maybe but he was only .12 of a second off breaking it and he eased off at least 15/20 yards from the finish
Bolt himself said he could see he was outside world record time, so he eased off.

David Rudisha was unbelievable in the 800m first athlete at these games to break a world record on the track.

Agreed, Bolt will take the headlines, but that was the run of the games. Awesome and beautiful to watch.

I didn't understand it but it's another gold. Counting Jamaica as part of Birmingham I reckon Britain now has about 40 golds. Fuck off America.

Having a young son who started taekwondo a couple of months ago, seeing how much he enjoyed explaining to me and his mum about what was happening was pretty ace.

He is going to be so excited to watch that in the morning (since it was WAAAAY past his bedtime) and it's the wee things like that which are making these games so good.

I'm not knocking it and hopefully it will spur your son on to become the best he can be which is the true benefit of the games.  But, like judo, the same apparent actions seem to score or not score depending upon some minute difference that I just don't have the knowledge to notice.

Why did he slow down...........

No million dollar bonus for breaking world record at Olympics - only gets a medal and a bunch of flowers.

He'll get paid millions trying to break it at meetings and eventually when they offer a big enough bonus he'll break it.

Today was a relatively quiet day at the games. I met an old Jamaican bloke who was one of their team managers, he asked me about which numbers to wear for the 4x4 heats.  Only realised who he was when I saw his badge. Don Quarrie Olympic champion 1976 200m in Montreal.  He only won it once not like Usain.

Not really, apparently the vests they wear have sensors to tell whether a kick or punch has landed, and head shots can be challenged if the fighter thinks it has or hasn't landed.
Obviously this is at top level and not at club level, but it seems a good sport to get into to me.
Judo I agree with, seems much more up to the referee.
