Adam Gemili says he's going to stay in athletics and not return to football - fucking right you are mate. You'd be mad to through away the potential you have.

It's one of those decisions on what is more important. If he is Champ level or better in football then he will probably be on a minimum of £100k a year but if he could improve his running he could be one of the top 10 of the 100 metres but not earn anywhere near the same amounts.

If he becomes a sub ten second runner from the UK he'll earn a lot more than that in sponsorship and endorsements.

UKR Sr. is here tonight watching the athletics and we were just discussing how dominant GB used to be in men's middle distance.

We couldn't come up with the name of anyone competing in the 1500m or 800m.

Is there anyone any good in those races these days ? Likewise, the sprints, apart from Christine O., is there anyone of note these days ?

Perri Shakes-Drayton is good in 400 hurdles. As you will have seen the mens 1500 were not up too much. There's not a lot else in the sprint distances, but Adam Gemili has a lot of promise.

I'm sure I heard Gary Spinaker refer to the Gymnast Max Whitlock as Max Hastings when he was interviewing the two GB medal winners.

Highest paid sports presenter?

Right, I think its time for a sort of guess the crowd type thing for the mens 100m, but for the winning time and winner.

My guess is going to be Yohan Blake in 9.55 secs
Blake will never run that quick. Bolt may well do that tonight though.

True, but what if he isn't Championship level?

He was playing for Dagenham and Redbridge and spent last season on loan to Thurrock. There are thousands of footballers who play at the level and never get any better - there's a lot of competition to get to as high a level as the Championship

Indeed and as I said if he can get to a level of running sub 10 seconds which I think he's fully capable of, then endorsements and sponsorship will eclipse those earnings. Also personally speaking I'd rather be at the top of my sport in my country, than an also ran at another sport.

I think the fact he opted for athletics is a good indication of the level he may have reached as a footballer.

Whenever I hear the commentator say "Perri Shakes-Drayton", I can't stop myself saying "Johnny Hates Jazz".

I find it so refreshing the honesty displayed by the British athletes when they have failed to achieve what they set out to achieve.  There's no excuses; just straightforward honesty with apologies to so many people for, as they see it, failure.
