I've said this before, but I'll say it again: British Cycling is the National Lottery's greatest legacy. From nowhere to the world's predominant nation on and off the road in less than 2 decades. Outstanding!

I hate to say it but there’s a good chunk of Murdoch money in there too.  If I take my leftie hat off, the cycling is a great example of how public/private arrangement can work.

Sky came to the party a long way down the line....piggybacking on the success that was already there (a bit like the myth in politics of It Woz The Sun Wot Won It)

The catalyst was the public's and public money: the Lottery and Manchester City Council building the velodrome.

You’re probably right there.  Ultimately it shows that investment from the bottom up is vital.  Build good facilities and go from there.  The legacy of this olympic will hopefully have a comparable effect in 5 to 10 years time (assuming that a decent level of funding is maintained).

Well done Pendleton, absolute bullet train!
Who is this Pendleton girl? Any pictures?

You might not have heard of this site but if you go to www.google.co.uk and type in Pendleton and choose the images option, there might be some there.

I warn you, googling for pictures of the lovely vicky is potentially dangerous for those with heart conditions!

Loved TheBig_Sam's recent description of the Garth.

Woke up from my boozy slumber there, screaming "what the fuck is that???" at the television screen. Apparently it was Garth Crooks.

For a moment I genuinely thought someone had dressed a cannonball in a cardigan, and rolled it in front of the camera. A curious little man.

Well done Ledecky. 15 years old unbelievable
I wonder if any US coaches will be questioning the reasons behind the progress she's made over the last year?

Bearing in mind what the USA coach said when the 16 year old Chinese girl beat her personal best by 6 seconds, wonder what he has to say about the 15 year old beating her personal best by such a large amount?

And yes, Sharon Davies is bloody awful, her stint on Big Breakfast should have served as a warning.

Murray makes a second Wimbledon final this year. Well done that man. Hopefully Federer will be too knackered.

Women out of the football. And Ennis leads the heptathalon after day 1. Interestingly during her interview it looked like the remote control car tournament was on in the background. Hope we win a medal in it.
