It’s got to be Sir Dave Brailsford after this.  Wiggo, Cav, Hoy and Pendleton take the headlines but he’s the man in the background pushing them all forward.

agreed, in fact, the new years honours list is going to be full of people from the cycling squad, and the rowers as well, between them they're inspiring the whole country, it's brilliant to see.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again: British Cycling is the National Lottery's greatest legacy. From nowhere to the world's predominant nation on and off the road in less than 2 decades. Outstanding!

I don't know what the criteria is for royal honours, but Brailsford can't do much more. What's left for a member of his team to win?

I just wish our football authorities could employ someone like him that's in it for the long haul. Instead we just seem to employ ex-footballers with limited ideas.

I have been to the rowing today with the wife and kids . Rowing is not a sport I would normally go and watch - but its what we got allocated in the ballot - and I wanted the kids to be part of the 2012 Olympics to give them some memories.

We had a great day - weather was ok, crowd was great so created a superb atmosphere and made all the better by seeing a gold medal and two bronzes for us.

Special mention to the Games helpers and the Military - they were all really great with my two kids which made their day even more special.

First time I have seen Olives for sale behind the bar at a sporting event though !!

I hate to say it but there’s a good chunk of Murdoch money in there too.  If I take my leftie hat off, the cycling is a great example of how public/private arrangement can work.

A problem with football in this country is that the clubs hold all the power.  A Brailsford would be a toothless lion when players like Bale would prefer to declare themselves injured rather than play in the Olympics.  Whilst that is bad for the wider game it is a huge gapping opportunity for a club to do similar i.e. the mighty Villa.

Sky came to the party a long way down the line....piggybacking on the success that was already there (a bit like the myth in politics of It Woz The Sun Wot Won It)

The catalyst was the public's and public money: the Lottery and Manchester City Council building the velodrome.
