I was at the Cameroon v New Zealand women's football last night with my son and seven year old grandson.  I really enjoyed the experience.  Someone posted on the annoying thread that they hated people, now I'm the opposite, I love people en-masse but by and large hate individuals.  One of the things I enjoyed most last night was the fact that everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves as they should and the overall feel good factor.  The volunteers were excellent too.

Some bloke in the gym this morning was loudly telling anyone who'd listen that any British athlete not singing the national anthem should not be allowed to compete. "I'd say, "there's the door", and kick them out through it. They ain't competing if they can't show respect to the country they live in." he said in a thick, Brummie accent.

Now, to me, why would anyone want to sing God Save The Queen. 1: You're asking people, especially a lot of young people, to sing about a God which they just don't believe in. In this modern age, young people just don't believe in mythical beings because they are taiught Science in school and it's pretty clear there's no such thing. 2: You're also asking people to sing about a Queen who they did not put in that position and is only there for being born to someone already in power, who was only there because they were born to someone in power etc. They cannot relate to the Queen whatsoever. You can love your country and not sing the anthem. Our country is great, but not because of a mythical being saving someone born into power, but because of the people that make up the country. How about a national anthem about that?

I would've said something to this bloke, but he was a big bloke with a skinhead who looked like he'd be a "I'm not a racist, but..." kind of bloke who'd go on EDL marches and vote BNP.

Me too. Plus Spain's national anthem doesn't even have any words to sing along to and they seem to have done ok in the last few years!

Barring a sinking situation, it appears that "Team GB (plus outlying unnamed bits)" are about to win Gold in the "Two Women having a paddle in a boat"

I take it that the people on bikes riding along the towpath are coaches and officials. Spectators can't just peddle along an d watch the race, can they ?

good that we're now into the events that we should do well in, hopefully a few more to follow in the rowing over the next few days, and wiggo should be right up there in a few hours as well.  The first one was important as it eases the pressure on everyone else.
