@Rick, The point I'm making is do we actually have a modern functioning scouting system at Villa, Villa for as long as I can remember and right through the MON years do not seem to have a proper awareness of what is out there, I had this debate with brice jovial the other night, mentioned players over in Holland that have gone on record as wanting to play in the Premiership, mentioned one particular creative midfielder, still only about 20/21 highly gifted that a mate of mine who lives there as watched a couple of times, in Holland, the Dutch think he's going to be one of the next big players over there, not saying he's right, but most of Holland think so and if they can spot him where is our scouting system.

Everybody is entitled to there opinion, fair play, you think the likes of Hutton, Cole and Jenas would be a good signing, I think these are players past there sell by date, that struggle to get games, that are overlooked by there clubs and therefore are also rans before they have even got to Villa, why are we always spending good money, notching up massive wage bills on players who quite frankly most of the time don't care if they are on the bench or playing so long as they are racking in millions.

But as mentioned we are all entitled to our opinions, I see players like Jenas and Cole rather like Harewood and Sidwell even Heskey ( not in the playing style sense), personally I don't think they will take the club forward and they certainly are not the future.

The most sense anyone's made all summer.

Signing Spurs reserve players. That's exciting.

Fact is does AM have a game plan, I would rather him sift through the leagues of Europe, bring in bristling new talent that will come to the front over the next couple of seasons, and lets face it, most of these gifted 20/21 year old are better than the likes of Jenas and Cole even now, so its never going to be an earth shattering risk the club is taking, blend them with some of the real talent at Villa, they can all learn from each others game and different approaches, Bannen, Clark, Herd, Gardener, Albrighton, even Gabby is not to old, put a good team together and go for success.

Yet still we trawl around as we do every transfer window in this pool of players that are no more than highly paid journeymen who act as pawns for there agents, thing also to remember is each of these players are on established Premiership contracts, so if Joe Cole has got 3 years still to go on his Liverpool contract and he's getting 90K a week, his agent will want at least that and more, otherwise he may just as well sit on the bench at Liverpool.

After MON, we should have gone down the road of completely rebuilding the squad, bringing through our own new talent with a mix of foreign starlets with the potential to come good.

But lets face it this is old ground, Alex Fergie does it every so often, as does Wenger, seems to me the managers that fail are the ones that feel they can buy success, exception being Man City, and that's still to be proven.

I will add that whatever you think of Jenas, we apparently went to Spurs for a player we wanted and were told £6-7 million and then went away. Now if this is a player we wanted, what's this nonsense about we have money for fees, but it's the wages that are the issue?

Could that player have been Hutton, not Jenas???

We've had three months to scour the globe for a midfielder and we come up with Jenas to best option to add to our squad. You couldn't make it up.

Has McLeish been employed as a scape-goat and this is all a cunning plan to get us back on the right track next season once all the deadwood has gone...

I'd rather give Clark a game in midfield than Jenas - just don't rate him!!

Jenas is fucking average at best, goes missing in games. If we get him in its a dark sign of things to come. Type of player QPR and Fulham would go for.

Average - One word that sums Aston Villa up perfectly nowadays. The current owners have managed to squeeze the last bit of interest I still had in the game out of me. I even used to get a buzz out of going up to Villa Park when Graham Turner was in charge probably because I was young and the experience was new. Saturday I had to muster up enough enthusiasm to watch Villa v Wolves on Sky.

So there you go.

There you go indeed.  We are not after "average Jenas" (or indeed anybody else)

There is an amusing theme on this site over the past few days and weeks, with various posters falling over themselves to prove just how little they care these days about The Villa or football.

I resigned myself to this as soon as AM was appointed and seeing the players being shipped out has done nothing to change my mind. I see it very much as a case of just keep us up this season, get all the crap off the wage bill and we can start again next season (hopefully). We may get Hutton in today if we're lucky but I reckon that will be it (Edna aside).

They could make football illegal and bulldoze all the stadia into the ground, and we'd still be here arguing the toss 5 years later.

Can you really see Joe Cole in a tracking back central midfield role, as no doubt the manager would want? If he couldn't prove himself in a fairly free flowing liverpool, then not really sure how he will be allowed a floating creative role with us. N'Zogbia enjoyed a free role at Wigan, yet he has been shoved out on the wing already with us.

Early days yet, robbie keane never knew he was going to celtic until 5 hours before the deadline -jenas is not as bad as some portray but it seems to me lerner has given up the dream and is getting some cash back before selling out.
