Why the hell would Man City need Hargreaves? Are they just planning on signing every player in the entire world?

I'll tell you why: Man City will double any other wage offer he's offered. There's no way he'll be any where near first choice in midfield. If it's pay-as-you play, can't see him getting many pay days? Man City and Chelsea have ruined the game.

Collins and Warnock were difficult to downright insubordinate at times last season but I don't see how anybody can call them shite.

new here......

My guess is that city are trying to get strength in depth because that's the advantage united have over them. I'd imagine hargreaves (along with de jong) would be used as cover for barry/toure in defensive midfield. If you look at city's signings this summer, they're clearly making a big squad in which almost every player in the starting 11 has a good back up player .... so in that sense I can't see them giving up milner, johnson etc. because they need them to cover other positions. But this is just all me guessing though - could be totally wrong.

Hargreaves has disappointed me a wee bit too, there. Been reading about a guy chomping at the bit to make up for lost time, looks like he'd rather pick up big wages and play occasionally than attempt to play every week for a side like WBA and really prove a point. Suppose he's got to do the best for himself though.

He's off the list then. Who next for CM?

They'll probably give him a basic that's peanuts by their standards and higher than anyone else could give him in total, then an astronomical amount per game.

Stephen Ireland has gone into a private clinic for brain & feet transplants & thanks to the wonder of modern medicine, McLeish says he will be back to anchor Villa's midfield for the Everton game & the rest of the season.

If the BBC says it, it must be true! It sounds like Aston Villa are closing in on a deal for Tottenham Hotspur right back Alan Hutton, which is sure to piss off all of the Villains. I feel like Randy Lerner has had his body taken over by a Randy Lerner robot who hates Aston Villa and is doing anything he can to destroy them. Selling Ashley Young and Stewart Downing, hiring Alex McLeish, benching Marc Albrighton and Barry Bannon, loaning out Jean Makoun to Olympiakos, AND signing Alan Hutton?!? Damn robot, a little subtlety might be in order here!

The rumored price is £3m, which would represent a £6m loss on his transfer. With Kyle Walker on the books and Kyle Naughton looking solid on loan early on, Hutton's not really worth his wages to us right now, so I'm completely okay with taking this loss. Especially since it probably makes Aston Villa a worse team. Have fun with him, Villa!

Hutton is a laughing stock at spuds. So who makes a bid for him ? yes Villa. What is happening to us ........

They'll shut up when he's playing better than Walker and Corluka every week.

Anyway;

Lots of questions on Dempsey. Here it is: There is interest. There was tentative approach. But the asking price is £8m. Too expensive. #avfc

£8 million too expensive, not very encouraging.

Hargreaves going to Man City is the same as Owen going to Man Utd.  You'd have thought at this stage in their careers having made far more money than they could ever spend, that they would try and get a club at Premier League level and play week in week out, even if for less cash.  Sitting on the bench has killed off any hope of Owen making an England comeback and it will do the same for Hargreaves.

It really is all about the cash. Depressing.

Hargreaves going to Man CIty shows in his own mind that even he doesn't know how long his playing days are going to last. Whether he could get injured again in the next game he plays and that his YouTube footage was just for show.

It's all about getting as much money as he can as quickly as he can. He's probably given up on his england career after all his injuries. Man City even if they give him a PAYP deal will probably offer double the basic wage that WBA and us would of.

That article about Lerner is just plain stupid.  Ok, he made the decision to hire Eck which a majority of us not happy with but we have to show our support for the club and players.  Regarding the sales of players, it wasnt Randy Lerner that sold them.  AY was in the final year of his contract and wanted to join MUFC.  Downing was tapped up by liverpool and wanted to join them so we had to do what was right and sell them for extra cash.  Eck obviously feels that Makoun is not part of his plans or cannot guarantee him football week in week out so loaning him out was the only option (or selling him).  The manager has had time to access his squad and he is making decisions which he feels are right for the team and his set up.

Hutton will be a good signing.  All the negative people out there saying he isn;t good enough etc etc, how do you know?  Just because he didnt do well at the Spuds doesn't mean he wont do good for Villa.  We have to start being realistic about our signings.  Gone are the days where Randy will be splahing his cash on players on high wages.  We cannot sustain that sort of expenditure.  How many of you lot whould want that and then turn out like leeds?  We have to now play with our means.  Aston villa spent more than that was generated last season and a club of this size cannot continue to be run like that.  We also need the stay away fans to come back and show their support so that we can generate more funds to buy players that will push us up the table.  Staying away is not helping the club at all.

Has Hargreaves signed for Man City or are people speculating that he'll sign for them given they've expressed an interest?  If its speculation then he may well surprise a few people and opt to join a club whereby he'll get more playing time?
