Hargreaves is a gamble. Like all gambles it's great when it wins but you leave yourself open to accusations if being a mug if it falls at the first.

I'd hope, if we do sign him, that there's a cause allowing us to cancel the deal if he falls apart again.

I'd assume pay as you play would be something like a basic wage anywhere between 10-20K and a 'bonus' if they actually make it onto the pitch. If that is the case, best part of a million basic a year for a bloke who has played what, half a dozen games in the past 3 years doesn't make sense if you're being a bit careful with the cash.

Isn't Hargraves the type of player other clubs have took a punt on and it's turned out to be a bargain? If he plays half the games with say Bannan playing the rest I think it will be a risk worth taking.

Hargreaves has barely kicked a ball for three years. It's a little more than a punt, and it's extremely hopeful to think he could play half the games this season.

But if he is fit and can prove it, I think he is just what we need in the middle of the park. Pay him peanuts for the first 12 months and he will have to show what he can do to earn a longer deal.

Benayoun is in negotiations with some club he's tweeted. Mccleish is supposedly after an attacking midfielder...

Someone like Saha at Everton -who did have an injury blighted spell  in the second half of his stint at Old Toilet would be a punt.

Signing Hargreaves would be tantamount to carrying out a sack of used notes (to the value of at least a million) at the North Stand carpark and burning them.

It's one big fire we got then with Shorey,Beye,Makoun,Ireland etc  stoking it with there used notes in wages

How many players hardly play for 3 years and come back and play both often and well? He's 30 now and with that injury record and it obvious we're not exactly splashing the cash around I wouldn't have thought we were in the position to take such gambles.
We may as well have tried to keep Hogg who was probably on lower wages, and is actually fit and could actually play when needed.

Aye.  But with most of them we thought we were actually getting something resembling a functioning footballer at the time.

Only way we could justify bringing Hargreaves in is if we sold him for spare parts.

With the squad looking thinner by the day , we really do need 2 players at least . Hopefully McLeish will have used his trip to watch Celtic to effect and we will see Ki and Kayal in villa shirts ! Wishful thinking ...

Something is definately not right at the moment. I'm getting the feeling that things may be happening behind AM back! AM only said a few days ago that No one would be leaving as the squad was too thin on experience. Since then young and now Makoun have left. I actually feel sorry for AM as I feel he has been royally stiched up by the board. Without a doubt Randy is nothing short of asset stripping to make us more attractive to potential suitors. The love affair is well and truly over!

Villa can confirm that Jean II Makoun has joined Olympiakos on a season-long loan, subject to FIFA approval.

With the squad looking thinner by the day ,

Thin? The squad looks positively anorexic!

In: Given, N'Zogbia

Out: A Young, L Young, Downing, Makoun (Loan), Carew, Pires, Reo-Coker, Hogg, Osbourne, Salifou, Weimann (Loan) and possibly Beye

Have I missed anyone? If I have I bet they were 'out' and not 'in'; this is ridiculous!

Please buy some (decent) players and preferably in the next 72 hours!
