Having watched him a few times I would say he is very much so. The kind of player we need too. He's combative but also can play a bit too. I'd be happy if he was our new midfield general.

Fair play, trust your judgement over most on here. What would he likely cost? Would he and Hutton before Wednesday make us a better side?

They were talking about £10million if he was to leave and Bolton reputedly bid £4million. I reckon their willingness to part with him has probably been increased by their European exit and if he's not signing a new deal as mentioned he'd be going for £5/6million. He's quite a young player (23 I think?) so he has a few years in him.

Hutton is a step forward over the current situation as he's a step up on Beye and Lichaj. He is very good on his day. I'm not sure if I'd have him over Luke but he's not a bad player.

Anything would be a bonus with the current numbers.

Can he do the things Makoun can do and would you even rate him better than Makoun?

I like them both as players. Makoun has the edge as a passer but I think Kayal is much more successful at the physical side of the game. They might even work well together as a pair as I see Kayal as a bit more like Petrov (but younger, with more stamina and slightly more adventurous in his play) than Makoun.

Sunday tabloids at creative best.
People paper rumour we want demspey
they seem to have created this link due to fact we have signed usa players in past.
Keeps a discussion thread going nonetheless

OK thanks for that bit of info. Sounds like a good player... if Makoun leaves we would without question need to replace him with someone like Kayal. Only problem is that if we're thinking about letting Makoun go we need to do buisness ASAP.

Sunday tabloids be speculative and creative in run up to deadline.
The people paper rumour dempsey.
Dempsey would be a great move for villa.
The paper here have seemed to have created a link by virtue we have american owner and our past history of signing some usa players.
Such stories help keep a thread going.

Is that a song?

Dempseys not a bad player by any means, but I think having Bannan / Ireland performing that role would be preferrable imo.

Gregory van der Wiel.............Ajax, good strong back with lots of ability.
And would cost us the best part of £20m to sign.

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel in a deal worth £28m.

Looks like Chelsea are going mental... reports that they're about to spend 40 million (yes, forty million pounds) on Modric. Quite insane.

Quick Villa, steal him away by offering 500k and Habib Beye.

this could open up a move for paulo ferreira
he would add to our squad and offer experience to lichaj and herd.
Ferreira quality and one of most successful players in game adding a real winner to villa. Great attacking full back loan move or discounted move for him would show ambition.

Surely another ageing player on ridiculously high wages is the last thing we need.

A loan move or say a 2 year contract whilst lichaj and herd develop.
Sure dont sign him to big wages but moving from chelsea he would have to be realistically be taking a pay cut. An enquiry say to loan him for a year would be good business , to have a champions league winner in team be a real boost plus he has won everything in england
