Hogg is gone. AVFC official just tweeted that transfer agreed with Watford.

What's going on at villa? I hope there's a couple coming in.

Rumour is it's  a free, which would seem strange as I can't see his wages being much by top flight standards.

We took in nearly £40m for Downing and Young and got them off the wage bill. Are things that bad that we need to clear out the likes of Hogg to get the wage bill under control.

No mention of a fee on the Watford page, but who knows these days with all this undisclosed fee bollocks etc.

they'd better be a sell-on clause at least. Didn't think he'd make it personally but selling youngsters who could develop 2 or 3 years down the line for nowt is bad business

Personally I don't think Hogg is good enough or ever going to make his mark in the first team. Maybe he wanted to go.?

In fairness to Villa, maybe Hogg forced the issue, afterall he's 23 in a couple of months and might want to kickstart his career. Let's be honest, he's not really looked like he will ever be a regular starter.
It would still be strange to me though if it is indeed a free transfer (this is in on way gospel "ITK" just what i've heard rumoured). Surely we'd get a mill or so for him.

Thought Hogg looked OK whenever I watched him last year.

No Zidane by any means, but a ballsy little player -who didn't let his lack of height prevent him from dishing out the physical stuff. Wasn't a complete nightmare with the ball at his feet either- certainly no worse than NRC, for example.

That's how I saw it too.

Would like to think that we've at least the financial room now for a player of good quality to come in.

Plenty have gone now this summer.

my worry is its watford and Graham taylor probably knows all about him. no idea how long he's been on the books but its possible he was around 8 years ago when GT left and he's recommended him. Must be a sell-on clause otherwise whats the point of spending a fortune developing players only to let them go free? It not like he's gone to a non-league club

It's not bad business. If it happens it's just bad luck.

Its a no brainer. if he's shit we've lost nowt. if he turns into a top midfielder we're covered. Watford would hardly pull the deal on a player they're getting free
