Lerner's given up or he just doesn't have the money anymore. Probably more the latter than the former - the bank stock market falls yesterday probably put the kybosh on any loan signings

isn't Mata more of a winger?
Unless Abramovich is short of cash I doubt this signing will have any bearing on whether Modric joins or not.

#sigh# look at us discussing chelsea and spurs transfer due to lack of any decent villa related rumours.

I fear your right, as Chelsea are very close to signing Mata according to Sid Lowe.

Overrated.  Decent player in Spain, but for the sort of money he'll go for, plus the lack of guarantee he'll settle in England, being a typical lightweight Spanish player, I wouldn't imagine him to be much of a success.  If it goes through, feel free to dig this post up if he becomes a world beater.

Mata is young so has time to adapt, but Reyes was the next big thing and could not cope with the physical nature of the game here. David Silva has done well though.

Well Guillem Balague had heard from a 'top source' at spurs that modric will still go to Chelsea and that Mata will play wide for Chelsea.

Chelsea lack width and are ageing through the middle so both deals are perfectly sensible. Modric is vastly overpirced and they could get 2 players of equivalent talent through the middle for the money but a fool and their cash and all that.

Esk was at the Celtic game admittedly checking out a couple of people who had been recommended. Press are all reporting it as Celtic players, but were we not linked to an FC Sion forward before the match?

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is weighing up a move for Celtic’s Israeli midfielder Beram Kayal after watching the 23-year-old face FC Sion on Thursday night.

I have been saying that for ages Lampard needs to be moved on, Essien is finished due to his injuries, Mikel I have never rated (and has other much more important things on his mind currently), Malouda/Kalou flatter to decieve......

I was at Bodymoor on Thursday and when McLeish left he said he couldn't stop because he was on the way to the airport.  Someone asked him where he was off to and he paused and then said Glasgow.  He then asked him who he was going to watch and he paused again, smiled and said Celtic.  We thought he was joking, with him being a Rangers man.
Incidentally, he did stop to sign autographs for everyone and have pictures taken unlike a few of the players (Gabby, Herd and Lichaj).  The 20 or so kids who had waited for a couple of hours were particularly disappointed with Gabby as he flew up the side of 2 players cars that had stopped to sign autographs.  I know they have lives to live too but the most anyone had to stop for was 10 minutes.  Thankfully most of the others were quite happy to hang around, Petrov in particular getting out of the car to have pictures.

If we loan Makoun anywhere it is fucking ridiculous.

He's got some fancy passes in him, but he's not strong enough. I thought he'd have been gone almost as soon as Houllier went.

If it means we can get a ball winner in, or Barton/Parker then I'm for it.
