I dont think Hitz is the sort of player we need.
If we signed him he'd want a 3 year deal minimum and therefore his wages would effectively prevent us from signing the type of player we do need in the future.

I'd prefer that we spent the money on a loan for the right type of DM rather than Hitz just because he has some experience.

Good. Especially if it ends our interest in Hitz.
Yeah, we have far too much experience in our central midfield.

Forget signing a decent international central midfielder on a free transfer. Why would we want that?

Agreed. Vigorously.

I am amazed people can't see the benefit of Hitz. He can pass better than most we have, shoot better, take a better set piece, is tactically a way better player than the one that left and is a free transfer. Wages wise if a 2 year deal with an option at 29, he is going to cost the club between 3-5 million tops. Compared to the 8-10 on Beye, or 45 billion on Heskey, I would say it is sound business, and more so in a position where we are 2 injuries from being short, and worse, one can't get through 90 minutes and 1 looks like he will be sent off for a 2 footed lunge most weeks. I would prefer to be heading into the last 10 minutes with Hitz on the park at 0-0 than not, as that left foot can always do something. If Cuellar is not going, we should let the manager get his man regardless.

I'm not one of the people who subscribes to the Hitz is bobbins school of thought but I just feel that if we have so little money then it should be deployed for a player we need more. He is patently not the defensive midfielder we desperately need (for me he is a bit further forward than that man) and we are probably in more urgent need of a left back or centre half or even a winger than a midfielder like Hitz. If we had some of those players in I'd want him in but it's unnecessary where we have much more desperate needs in other areas.

Adam Johnson, would be amazing, but the rumour is a season long loan with a view to a perminant deal.

Well that's silly, because he will have a great year for us then spurs or Liverpool would buy him. We need to buy him now if he is available.

But he could become a DMF - he has the energy, intelligence and physique to do so. He wouldn't be my first choice but if that's all we afford, why not go for it?
And he could cover at LB - he's played internationals in that position.

I certainly wouldn't him to be first choice. Or to play in a midfield two.

But he gives us something that we currently don't have and I think he'd be fine with any two of Petrov, Makoun or Delph.

As somebody said earlier, I don't think we have any player who I would expect to be able to come off the bench with 15 minutes to go and give us a good chance of turning a 0-0 into a 1-0.

Exactly what I thought. Would feel much more confident about this season if we had him in.

I can't see how we'd be able to afford him on loan.

Bloody hell, I know we're economising but we're not in Blues financial territory just yet!

Well I'm just going on what's coming out of the club. I assume they'd probably want a loan fee and us to pay his wages, which I don't think we're in a position to do unless it's amazing smoke and mirrors from Villa.
