Have I missed something? Sky sports have an article where Mcleish admits to wanting Der Hammer, buts says we have to sell first, because of the wage bill.

Hargreaves to go to west brom?

Think he's exactly what we need. I know it's a gamble with his fitness but he's a damn good player in an area which we're lacking. Offer a PAYP deal with an option that kicks in for full salary if he plays something like 60% of all league games.

In the squad there is a gaping defensive midfielder size hole as I do not think the current senior players or any of our youth are naturals in this position. If we do not address this position in this window then I think we are making a mistake.

With the other areas I'm happy to go with what we have and maybe look at it again in January once Bannan/Ireland/Clark/fonz have hopefully had a decent number of games to prove their worth.
AM has been talking up Delph big time. Perhaps he's gonna use him to plug that hole...or Clarky?

By removing Petrov and replacing him with anyone that can run for more than 45 minutes should reduce the size of the hole.

Trezeguet? (Which as we all know is French for three times as gay) Well there's one out of left field. I cant believe he's a free agent.

This has to be the most pointless thread on here since last summer's one.
But I bet you can't wait until Sept 1st when some bright spark opens the January window thread?

Adam Johnson on loan would literally be signing of the season, but I think we're best putting that rumour firmly in the "dream on" folder alongside the return of Milner.

We as fans can be very greedy. We havent even had a whole season from Bent yet but we're demanding more signings. On the football weekly podcast they said that Villa's form with bent reads something like played 16, won 7, drew 5, lost 4. That's not bad form.

I guess fans will never be completely satisfied (see Man U fans for example) but we should not forget the good players, promising youngsters and excellent facilities that we already have.

You did notice that we've sold Young, Downing and seen Carew and NRC leave the club, right?

Didn't you always bitch about Reo Choker and Carew?!

People can debate whether we can have enough in central midfield or elsewhere. Bottom line is we're going to find out because the money's not there or its there but the board have a higher opinion of the squad than some of us have. I just hope the club won't be forced to make a hurried re-appraisal in 2 weeks time. By that time AM could be on the back-foot and with limited options to re-inforce the side, as the best players will be tied-up

I didn't think NRC was that great, but he's better than no defensive midfielder.  Carew I was a big fan of, so no.

I was a fan of the pre nightclub going Carew. Post he was languid and tiresome to watch.

Reo Coker should have been kept. Still in the squad he would be pushing to be captain now.

Bigger concern though is Walker, Young and Downing were our total creative force for Bent. What now.....

Good. Especially if it ends our interest in Hitz.

Yeah, we have far too much experience in our central midfield.

Forget signing a decent international central midfielder on a free transfer. Why would we want that?
