Man City have a good recent record of producing home grown players.  It's just that some of them seem to be nutters and wasters (Ireland, Barton, M Johnson).

They've also brought Sturridge, Richards, Onuoha and Wright-Phillips through off the top of my head.

Pretty much bang on for me, great post. I would add that what I've seen of Weimann leads me to believe he could be a really good player, he has great talent and just needs to stay injury free. I'd look to send him out on loan this season.

Or I'd like to see players like Weimann used more in the cups this year. Let some of the younger players gain the experience that way like what arsenal do.

no we need to take the cups seriously -its the longest period in the last 60 years that we have gone without a trophy and we our only chance of silverware is the cups.

I'm not saying we don't take the cups seriously but it's a long season so why not use the squad in it's full with some of the youngsters in the cups?

Sky sports "understands" there's no truth to the rumour in Sneijder to man city deal. If it turns out to be true though, wonder what that means for someone like Milner who's desperate to get first team football?

the size of the squad means its likely the youngsters will all get a chance in league games anyway at some stage ;our only chance of success is the cups and we must play our strongest available team after last seasons fiasco at eastlands.

We are gonna have to play our strongest team available in the league too . Every point we can get is vital.
It's not like we can afford to make wholesale changes from game to game ( nor do we have the strength in depth to do so.)

agreed ger but the size of the squad means that with the nature of injuries , form and suspension the younger lads will surely get their chances this season to impress -aston villa should always pick their strongest available team in competitive matches, be it league or cup.

I would be deeply angered if the manager repeated the shambolic kind of selections that houllier did at man city, where our best players were fit and yet left out.

Heard one of the porn merchants (D. Gold) on 5live this morning saying that he was surprised that Scott Parker was still at the club and that they had had no offers for him. He said that he hoped Parker would stay, but seemed to intimate that if a reasonable offer came in then the board wouldn't stand in his way.
So come on Mr. Lerner get your wallet out one last time PLEASE.

I get the feeling that they will struggle to move him on. Chelsea's initial interest has failed to materialise and the likes of us and Spurs who would like to sign him just don't have the funds.

It's a shame as I think he is the perfect player for what we need. He won't be cheap but you can't put a value on the improvement he would make to our team, helping educate the youngsters and boosting confidence around the club.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is ready to launch a new bid for Villarreal's Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi.

Redknapp and his chief scout watched Rossi hit a stunning winner for the Spanish outfit at Everton last night, as Tottenham continue their search for a top-class goalscorer.

The North Londoners tried and failed to get Rossi in the last window but the former Manchester United reserve is now on the market again.

Rossi has missed out on moves to Barcelona and Juventus and is available at around £28million.

so do I. So for all their big, bold statements of not selling their best player they'll do so because it makes sense to. Randy/PF were blasted this summer for not hanging on to Downing, and Levy was stuck on a pedestal on how a club chairman should be when faced with a player wanting out, but ultimately and disappointingly the player wins. The club just have to get the best deal possible. It happens at Villa, it will happen at Spurs, and when Fabregas finally gets to move to Barca and closes the book on the most boring transfer of all time, it will happen at Arsenal. I hate it when it happens to us, but our challenge is to ensure our job building from it is a solid one.

selling carrick and berbatov also did them no harm -the key is to spend the money on good replacements .

mancini has said this week he sees milner as a key member of his squad-no chance they would let him come here -pie in the sky!

bellamy or swp  would be loaned out but definately not milner , and from his interview last week hes loving life at city -get over him , its a pipedream.
