£70,000 a week for a ticking time bomb. No thanks.

Fully agree. Don't want the t*at in the first place but if we do sign him at this sort of wages I will be mortified.

It won't happen, Given had to take a pay cut to come here and i reckon Bent and Zoggy are on the same money.

I can't see any club except the top three or four paying those sums anymore, we've all been burnt, Heskey 60.000 a week how ridiculous is that, Beye even more stupid. You pay high wages the player turns out to be duff and you have to keep paying him for four years.

yeah and If hes good , he fooks off to Manure or Man shitty...

70k a week works out as 10M over three years. Which is a lot. Another way of thinking of it though is. We have replaced Downing with N'Zog and Barton. This assumes N'Zog has equal wages to Downing.

This is a good deal in my view.

Personally I think managers are not worried abut the actual crimes Barton has committed. They are worried that their mistakes will be highlighted on twitter.

It's this simple, we will not sign anybody unless the likes of Cuellar, Beye, Petrov or Heskey leave within the coming weeks.

And that he's a shitty influence in the dressing room. Pardew said pretty much that yesterday, something like "Barton and Newcastle not going in the same direction"? (Can't be arsed to check).
N'Zog in for Downing is a brilliant bit of biz for us.

Totally agree. What a shame it appears we can't make it even better by spending the rest of the profit on somebody like Palacios (sp).

People keep saying profit, but perhaps it's not a profit, we have to cover the losses we made last season 37Million, we need to steady our business model and rightly so, our wages are still not in line, we have the likes of Beye, Petrov, Heskey, Warnock and Ireland picking up considerable wages however not bringing much to the side, McLeish might change their performances, but I think we're doing it right if we continued we could seriously KO Villa, I believe we have enough in the side to get us to mid-table, but unless we remove some of the high earners who don't play for players who could do an equal job. Habib Beye 30-40k for Nathanial Clyne 15 to 20k thats what we will be trying to do.

Palacious would cost at least 8M in transfer fee and prob 8M wages. So Barton would work out a lot cheaper.

IMO we need a midfielder with prem experience, we have Zog, Petrov has gone, Ireland might be great or might be completely shite of the rest Delph, Makoun, Bannon, Albrighton, Hogg, Herd etc have plenty of promise but a only a handful of prem games between them.

I can't think of another player who is of equal class as Barton who would cost less than the total spend of 10M. (I think Parker would be 18M). IMO resale does not come into this as we need someone with experience.

Lot of sense les!
Barton on the pitch is what we find good about him - every other aspect of him, including wages, never mind all the personal baggage, is where we would be taking a massive gamble, and I would have thought AM might be thinking "NO!"
It's a lot to do with the money, but also the overall effect on the team and its "spirit".

Would have thought AM clearly wants to build up his own "spirit" and work ethic etc, and I think that's why he's almost got to go with what we already have and almost force their hand (as well as RL's). If the highly paid benchwarmers/whingers don't do the biz, move them on and replace them, but....someone like Barton would be a potential time bomb in the dressing room and beyond. Can't imagine AM wanting that. Same with quite a few "established" Prem players really. I can see AM using the kids while scouting for bargains with a view to moving the big wagegobblers on.

You've got to also remember that Barton is not a defensive midfielder. Just because he's violent doesn't mean he's got the skills to sit in front of a back 4 and break up play.

Shouldn't this thread be locked seeing as though we have finished buying players?
