Albrighton needs confidence. Lets not forget the promise he showed last season, he has great crossing ability and can beat a man when he is confident. A lot of Downing's goals came from quality balls from Albrighton last season so writing him off I think is harsh, but he still should be the 1st reserve for the wing spots, not the 1st choice. I would take ANY decent quality right winger right now, including Bentley, Wright Phillips etc.

swp maybe but bentley no , he was a flop at blues and although swp has looked decent in pre season i dont think bentley is what we need.

They may be short term and cost 50k a week - so 5 million on the wage bill, but Parker and Wright Phillips into what we have would see us top 8 IMO.

Think its more to do with first team regulars coming into team,(from last night)than any new signings. We've  gotta make do with what we have.

i agree with you, the lack of creativity is worrying and we have created very little in the way of clear chances in the 3 games in the last week, albeit only friendlies .

im not too worried about the defence but i think we are overly reliant on bent to score goals and we need to feed him chances , bent and nzogbia are massive players for us and if injured we will have real problems.

even with downing and young chipping in with goals and creating chances we were struggling until bent arrived and its vital we create mor chances for him.

I agree to an extent.  Problem comes when we have a spate of injuries.  The squad at present is undeniably weaker than last seasons.

I'd rather we played an off-form Albrighton than an eternally shite Wright-Phillips.

Verhoek would probably be cheaper in terms of wage and fee and well he can't be any worse than Wright-Phillips.

I think we need to strengthen (in particular in defence and midfield) and I hope we do but I think it is the case that we will not sadly. I don't think we are going to be in the relegation battle but a few players might make a big difference to how high up the midtable we'll finish which will see McLeish under much less pressure.

Agree, just hope Randy / AMc are thinking similarly.

Couldn't agree more Zogman.
SWP is no better than what we already have (Albrighton when in form) and we need a midfield "general"/creative provider so much more as well as another CB (if Carlos goes).
1 or 2 "key" players in the spine of the team could make a massive difference between success and failure for us this year.
I think the team carried Ash and Downing at times last season, but their contributions at times (not often enough!)were crucial. We need to replace their roles with something more consistent and effective and I think N'Zog is a part of that, but there's still a gap and it's not on the wings.

31 goals were as a direct result of Young and Downing last season.

Signing Shaun Wright-Phillips would be absolutely mental. It's not 2004.

He was only average then.

I think the game against Braga will give us a better indication as apparently AM is fielding a full strength side so I'm reserving judgement until then as I thought we played some good stuff against Blackburn and Walsall when we played or at least started with full strength sides

It'll also be interesting to see what he thinks his full strength side is.

My money is on:

Given
Young - Collins - Dunne - Warnock
Makoun - Stan - Ireland
Gabby - Bent - N'Zogbia
