I hope Eck has seen enough in the last few games to realise that we need another couple in. Surely we've taken enough off the wage bill to be able to bring in one or two more?

I don't think Gabby or the fonz are going to be effective wide John, I thought Fonz was poor when he came on, He's control was poor.

I get the impression that were never going to go with more than one up front, when Fonz came on last night he went wide until Bent went off

I think there effectiveness, or lack thereof, would depend on how they're played.  It would need to be a genuine 4-3-3 with them not actually playing too far wide, but inbetween the oppositions fullback and centreback.  If you ask them to be a traditional winger, then that won't work.

There would also then be an onus on our own FBs to get forward and provide the true wide option.

I didn't include Verhoek or similar as for the attacking midfield positions we already have Ireland, N'Zog, Albrighton and Bannan, plus the option of using Gabby or the Fonz wide.  I can't see Randy sanctioning any more spending it that area with those options already in place.

True , I was just thinking this myself over my Weetabix .   That DCM is so important ,,

I hope you had it with warm milk??

The 'McLeish wants more signings' story on SSN now: http://dlvr.it/dnfzn

I'm not quite sure that's what he said...
Agreed Matt. He said we needed to strengthen, and I took it that he meant that in regards to the team that played last night. Therefore, with the 7/8/9 first teamers back, that strengthening will have taken place.
But, I think it's pretty clear he knows what we all know on here that we need to bring at least 2 more players in.

It ain't going to happen - just get used to the fact that Given and N'Zogbia will be the only signings this window. Lerner will not commit anymore money - he know's best doesn't he?

i thought garry mac was talking of a few new faces this summer , what has happened to make randy make such cutbacks , we have shipped out a lot of big earners and sold 3 players in a year for £20m or more-surely he must see that we are short of quality.

plenty of potential but im not totally convinced bannan and fonz will make it at this level, ireland looks a shadow of the player he was and albrighton similar.

i was feeling optimistic but that is rapidly diminishing and i think bent and nzogbia carry most of our hopes on their shoulders-not too worried about the defence but midfield worries me greatly .

No, I'd say with the assertiveness of your post, it's obviously you who knows best, oh wise one!  ;)

I think the game against Braga will give us a better indication as apparently AM is fielding a full strength side so I'm reserving judgement until then as I thought we played some good stuff against Blackburn and Walsall when we played or at least started with full strength sides

Three players are a must for me, a DM (Palacios) Utility Defender (Onouha) and Winger (Bentley), think too much pressure is on Albrighton.

It'll also be interesting to see what he thinks his full strength side is.

I would'nt touch Bentley and no-one else seems to want to either. Let's face it, the only club who came in for him last season was Small Heath and besides, he's one of these who think's he's better than he is.

Hang on, last night in a reply to one of my posts you stated that my glass was ''half empty'' Now 24hrs later your glass doesn't seem ''half full''??

So, is Diarra still available on a free?  Surely he'd sign for Heskey's wages, around £60k a week, which we KNOW will be off the bill in a years time, or if we're lucky January.  So for no transfer outlay we'd solve the midfield problem at the cost of a short term sacrifice on the wages.

Coem on Randy!!

My guess judging from pre-season would be:

                       Given

Young     Collins       Dunne    Warnock

             Makoun      Petrov

Albrighton       Bannan       N'Zogbia

                        Bent

Or I have a feeling Heskey may be in there somewhere....
