The club/MON was rightly criticised for not having a more expansive scouting network, and depending too much on the vastly overpriced domestic scene. There's a whole world of players out there that we should be tapping into if the player has potential. No harm if it doesn't work out once he starts going up for headers against the likes of Dunne and Collins. It will be a big step up from winning headers in Japan. But if he does well, and for a reasonable fee - then why not?

I see the Alan Hutton links are warming up. With a year left on his contract, Kyle Walker back there, Redknapp will be desperate to get him off the wage bill and get some money in.

kendrick says no truth in hutton rumours or barton either, typical of heskey to turn leicester down and tell them maybe next year , says a lot for his ambition rather than chasing promotion with his hometown club he will sit on the bench at best and pick up £65000 a week .

I'm all for taking a punt on players, epsecially if its just to get them over for evaluation. It shows imagination to go after guys like this.
You'd be amazed how many very good players were picked up from obscurity by clubs with a bit of imagination and a scouting network with an eye for what suits their clubs needs.

We had Steve Mandanda over for trial and some bell end decided to let him go.
A lot of fans said "who?" but he's now a top goalkeeper.

I actually think Heskey will do ok this season. But put yourself in his shoes. Why on earth would you go to a Championship club when you're being paid as well as you are in the PL, are liked by people at the club, and where he doesn't have to play every game as opposed to 46 league games plus cup games. He probably knows his current contract won't be renewed, and at the end he can walk to Leicester on a free who will likely be in the PL by then anyway. Or he could be sold in January to them for a nominal fee, and help them in the final few months achieve promotion.

People are forever going on about how the Wenger's and Moyes of the world find these players before they become household names for a couple of million. It's what we need to start to do ourselves. The club's ambition shouldn't be about net spend. It should be about finding the right talent in Asia, South America, Europe and Africa for small fees and turning them into big name players that make the entire club stronger and more competitive. We're neve going to do it the old MON way, or indeed how Liverpool seem to want to do it with Dalglish.

Never heard of him. But, that don't mean he's crap, it just means I'm not king of FIFA or PES....

Mandanda has become quite the wanted player. He'd be our number one right now if we'da signed him. Missed a bargain there.

Aye, I recall that. People also said we had Hangeland on trial but I think that was somehow mixed up with Mandanda.

We got Carson on loan instead of Mandanda haha

Didn't Hangeland fail a medical with us? I'm sure he did.

Just think, we could have had Mandanda and Myhill as our No.1 and No.2 goalkeepers for years for next to nothing, but for two different judgement calls.

That Havenaar looks good fun, doesn't he?

Re Verhoek, it seems his price is going to be around the 2 million mark. For a right winger that did really well in the Dutch league last season, it seems worth a punt.

Indeed. We need at least a squad option for the wide positions.
