we still need another midfielder . we are too light in that department .

Agree but for me Barton is not that midfielder.

maybe , put I think the fans think Id rather have Barton than nobody at all .  Thats the problem .  If only we could get a Barton without the timebomb in the head ...

Thus far I have to say I haven't been impressed with Delph, he seems like a liability and i'm startin to wonder if he's going to be the top player everyone says.

I'll hopefully see more of him tomorrow at Derby

Has Hitz got himself a club yet ?

I'd prefer him to Barton

If the midfielders have fitness they can cover ground, however if one midfielder is insistent on sitting on top of the back 4 then we're in trouble which Petrov does he just invites pressure, if we play 4-4-2 Petrov should be nowhere near the starting line up for me.

Bravo Sir

Milner carried him big time hence the defence being shit last season

Phil

I remember Delph against Man Ure when we drew 1-1 a couple of weeks before the Cup Final and he was the bollocks.

I think he needs a run

I'm undecided on Delph, rightly so, as we need to see him start about 20 games in a row to really see what sort of player he can be
I expect big things, he's highly rated. I think he needs to just compose himself. I think he's still a bit rash.

I think it's a bit unfair on Delph constantly being paired up with Petrov, think he doesn't have the freedom to venture further up forward. So I'd like to see him with Makoun before judging on him, think he's a talent played some quality balls but would like to see him drive a bit from the middle.

I think with the options we have in centre midfield we'll have to go with a middle 3.

I really want Delph to be succesful with us. But think Gardner might jump ahead of him after his first team debut against Chelsea. He seemed very composed and went hunting for the ball and won a couple of challenges and then layed the ball off. Delph looks nervous and unless he can find some confidence will struggle .......

Not just me saying it about Petrov, Dennis Mortimer has made a statement saying 'Petrov is a steady eddie' and he takes about half an hour to pass a ball!

If, as seems likely, we're not going to be bringing anymore players in this summer, I'd like to see Alex take a deep breath and pair Makoun and Delph together as the midfield two. Makoun's got the composure and the experience, Delph provides that extra spark of energy and tenacity - not to mention quality on the ball too. I agree that he needs to have a run of games under his belt to help establish him in the side, perhaps calm him down a wee bit. Delph's never really had that.

Then I think it's a case of adding a third midfielder according to form and opposition. For an attack-minded playmaker type it's Ireland or Bannan, if we want to pack the midfield out a little bit to stifle a team particularly strong there, it's Petrov, or even Hogg for a bit more of a combative role. If we're looking for more of an all-round midfielder to add into the equation, perhaps this is even where we might start blooding Gardner.

I always forget about Gary Gardner. Huge season for him. If he is going to be this world beater people expect him to be then he'll need to make an impression this season. The best young players usually make a break through at around 18.

I think we need a CB, if Carlos goes then we only have Dunne and Collins - personally I think we need someone to replace one of them, from early season games they still look suspect. I wish Collins would stop trying to play 50 yard passes, he's not Hoddle.
