Sounds to me like they've had enough of his negative comments about the clubs transfer policies and so have decided if he was going next year anyway, they may aswell get that negativity out of the club, and probably want rid of his wages too. Suits both parties, as he now gets a new and probably improved contract a year earlier. Thats what I reckon anyway

probably a few clubs will be after barton now on a free-isnt he an everton fan?
I cant see the top 6 being in for him but everton and villa might be interested.

Everton have Osman, Fellaini, Arteta, Cahill, Rodwell and Bilyaletdinov though, all of which are good players. I know Barton has a different role but seeing as though you can only fit 5 in to a midfield I think we need him more than they do.

Was ireland a regular in the team at man city when barton was there? im sure dunne was in the city team at the time -i would certainly like to see us make him an offer but not if its crazy money and id hope hed go to the best team in the hunt rather the highest wage payers.
