If the difference is retiring with £60m in the bank and no medals or £50m in the bank ans a shed load of medals, I know which one I'd pick!

I'd just spend a couple of million buying a shed load of medals, leaving myself 8 mil better off still.

Paul Scholes always said he'd play for Oldham before he retired.
If he'd have done this then I'm sure his popularity would have increased dramatically.

But it's probably the fact that he doesn't care for the celebrity life that he didn't. Shame really.

If I was a footballer I'd want as much money as possible and would play for the club willing to pay me the most.

Which is sadly the thinking of most young players today

In any profession, if offered a minimum of a 30% pay rise to do the same job around better people with a better record for success. I'd challenge any living soul to turn that down, in the real world, they would take it without hesitation.  If you are the guy who is gonna say to me that seeing, Aguero go to Man City, Torres to Chelsea, Dzeko, Tevez, Ronaldo, Sanchez, any of these big names going to a club who can give you the financial security for the rest of your life, in no way whatsoever appealed to you, then you are obviously blessed with the best life ever already, or a stone faced liar. But rest assured, it's one of the 2.

I love the Villa, playing for them would have been the ultimate dream, but any club offering me, in this argument, a rise on £40k to say £65k+, I'd be gone, like a shot. I work for money, not friendship.

Thats the nature of the beast though.  With mega money deals between clubs for players, between television companies and leagues, between sponsers and clubs, between companies wanting to advertise their products and players.  With clubs paying players monstrous amounts of money and with agents involved, that is the way the vast majority of footballers are going to think.  Everything about the game ultimately comes down to money.

It is sickening, but there it is.

Don't get it, if I could play for Villa and earn £40k a week I would want nothing more, £60k per week and playing for Man U wouldn't be tempting.
Which is a very noble sentiment. It's just rather easy to make when nobody's actually asking you to choose whether or not to turn down a million pounds per year just to play football somewhere else.

It's not that difficult though is it, if you're talking about swapping my current salary for an extra million a yr playing for Utd, then I'd take it in a heartbeat, but in my hypothetical scenario I'm on 2 mill a yr anyway, so I wouldn't exactly be hard off.

This time next year: Beye, Luke Young, Cuellar and Heskey's contracts will have expired.

Dunne and Warnock will only have 1 more year remaining so should be much easier to shift as they'll be looking for their last big contracts.

We're almost out of the shit wages wise. This season will be similar to last, IMO. Developing the kids again.

By this time next year we'll have a lot of holes in our squad, presumably the finances to fill it and we'll know if Clark, Bannan, Delph, Albrighton and Delfouneso are good enough to fill them.

I just hope Ireland comes good and we keep N'Zogbia and Bent tied down to compliment that.

If I play for Villa I will only leave for one of those 4 clubs Real Madrid, AC Milan, Barcelona or Inter Milan. (That if I am good enough)

If I played for Villa I wouldn't leave. No other Club will be good enough for me after the Villa.
