And Parker can play for 3/4 years so give him the appropriate length of deal.

I honestly don't think he can, he'll possibly have 1 or maybe 2 good seasons left in him, then we'll be around to a debate again, he's on high wages no re-sale value. Players are out there, look at Tiote for Newcastle, they picked him up for 3Million, we need to use our scouts and Artur Numan in the Netherlands is a start.

Parker would be ace. I think there's more chance of Hitzlsperger. Dann would be ace too, I think there's more chance of Upson.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. Friends in Germany say we've made a £2 million bid for Javier Pinola from FC Nuremberg (Argentine left back, age 28)

Does this mean AM is telling porkies about no more transfers after N'Zogbia? I hope so. Any info on what this player's like?

McLeish is having to work with a tighter budget than his recent managerial predecessors at Villa as Lerner strives to reduce the players’ wage bill.

He hailed Lerner as a “man the Aston Villa fans trust” and he believes the American’s careful approach will be replicated by other chairmen.

Once the £9.5 million Charles N’Zogbia deal is completed early next week, McLeish will not be given any more substantial funds for squad rebuilding.
We’re looking at our own finances within the club and we’re trying to keep everything correct,” said McLeish.

“Randy Lerner, it ought to be said on record, is a man the Aston Villa fans trust.

“There’s no doubt that we want to get ourselves right in terms of the way the club’s run.

“You know the inflated wages, whether every club is going to stand for that for too much longer is debatable.

“We’re watching the wages don’t spiral out of control.

“So even bringing in free transfers everybody thinks it won’t cost you anything but if they’re on 50 or 60 grand a week it just escaltaes the wage bill out of all proportion.

“I know that Randy Lerner has already stated that he wants to keep things tighter and work within our means.

“That’s normal. When the fair play rules come in in 2013 I believe there will be a lot of clubs following suit.”

A lot of sense spoken there by AM.
He does come across as a pretty straight forward guy especially compared to MON's riddles and houllier's hidden agendas. I'd imagine he'd be a good guy to work for.

Wish they'd fuck off with that fair play bollocks, like anyone in the top flight will take note..

Not yet anyway

That's not unreasonable is it? We cannot expect randy to keep putting money in his pocket forever.

We've just raised good money for Young & Downing and I dont think its unreasonable for him to reinvest that money into some defensive cover and a defensive midfielder

So we're going to stop spending now, but other clubs will wait another 2 years, great so by the time they stop they will have far stronger squads than ours.

The way I see it is, the squad is OK for a team not in Europe. It's not as deep as we'd like but the same way we'd also like to see the young players play more. The signing of a Parker or Barton would leave us with three senior centre midfielders who'd expect to play every week. At some point next season there will be square pegs in round holes, but we've alot of young, versatile players who are pacy and comfortable on the ball - so that will hopefully not be an issue.

We can replace the players who's wages exceed their ability if we're able to shift them, and replace them with players who are similar level of ability on a lesser wage, in an ideal world.

A centre half will come in if Cuellar goes - Upson or Dann?
As will a right back if Beye goes - Hutton?
Centre midfielder if the prices drop - Barton or Parker?
Centre forward if Heskey goes - N'Gog?

It's about the complete financial package, not just wages. Spurs have different intentions to us at the minute but are finding it difficult. Likewise Arsenal and to some extent Liverpool.

I think our business so far post MON has been shrewd, and will see us stronger next year.
