Perhaps we could we do a swap, Beye for Dann? As Pannu is in Hong Kong at the moment, he'd be ideally placed to take him back with him.

Larsson and Dann, I'd have gone for. And pre-Seamus, Foster.

For a fleeting - fleeting - moment, I pondered Barry Ferguson, just to give us a bit of composure and leadership in the middle. I'd forgotten he'd gone to Blackpool. And was now 33.

Back to Dann: he'll surely go somewhere, won't he?

There's no way they'll keep Dann. No way.

I think one of the bigger clubs will go for Dann - Liverpool or Arsenal

Fahey was apparently shocking against Oxford!!

At least he is consistent then as he was the worst player on the field against Cork as well.

Why would Beye want to go to Small Heath? He might be many things but stupid is not one of them!

I think we should really help our neighbours out , we dont want them to be extinct .  I would throw a 3 million pound bid for Dann to help them out , Jerome could keep Villa park nice and tidy with his pan and brush and any blocked toilets can be unblocked using  Zigic and lets hope Poundland come in as their new sponsors.

we have already helped them out - 3m-4m for the management team that presided over their relegation last season  :(

Apologies for posting this here but its about NRC's move to Bolton.  I love they way he says that there was interest from team playing inthe Champions league!  lol!  I smell some bull.....

Article taken from the Manchester Evening News online:-

Bolton boss Owen Coyle's perfect pitch could have persuaded Nigel Reo-Coker to reject the possibility of playing European football this season.

It’s believed the former England Under-21 skipper has agreed personal terms and will sign a three-year deal at the Reebok.

If confirmed, it will represent a major shift in Reo-Coker’s ambitions after deciding to leave Aston Villa. Now 27, the ex-West Ham favourite insisted there had been interest in his services from foreign clubs.

“And most of the clubs are playing in the Champions League,” he said. “That is something you would like to participate in and I am a footballer for the fact of playing at the highest level.”

So, watching the team play in the Asia Trophy thing, the one thing that stands out for me (and this isn't some new insight, I know!!) is the lack of 'strength' in midfield. I honestly think that the right purchase in that regard could really see us right.

Now I reckon Parker is out of our reach, sadly, but who else is out there? I only know Premier League teams really, not too much about the French second division and so on, but someone like Palacios, maybe? Gettable, effective and not as old as I always think he is.

I'd prefer Samba to Dann and belive we'd have a better chance of getting him if we get N'Zogbia!

Spurs paid quite a lot of money for Palacios IIRC, so regardless of whether he is currently first choice or not, I doubt he'd be leaving on the cheap.  As others have said, if we're going after that sort of player, then to make it financially viable we'd probably have to take a gamble on a relatively unknown one.

I think players like N'Zonzi, Mulumu, Diame are what we need. A touch-tackling, young, central battler. One of them would be available cheaply as well. One of them, or someone of a similar mould from around the world.

1. We need backup for a right back. Young cant be relied on for the whole season(injuries) and Lichaj may not be ready. I think Hutton will be ideal especially if we play 3 in midfield. Will need the right back and left back to bomb on which hutton is good at. Might have to get rid of Beye for it to happen.
Warnock has had a good start at left back. Clark and Baker are adequate backups. If Cuellar leaves then we definitely need a Centre Back and I will not look beyond Samba or Dann. Think Dann is more realistic.

2. Agree about lack of bite in midfield. Il take one of mulumbu, Palacios or Parker. But i think this move will happen only in January. Think Delph will turn out to be a quality allround midfielder though.

3. Bannan and Ireland will be given the chance to shine as the creative midfielder. with Nzogbia and Albrighton as wingers. One more winger will be great but again dont see it happening this summer.

4. Dont see any new strikers with bent there. Gabby, Fonz and Heskey will be backups. Looks like Burke and Weimann will try to push through as well. Finding a replacement for Heskey will happen next year i believe.

Ashkar - that's a decent summary of where we stand, IMO. I'm actually reasonably satisfied with our defensive options - would need revising if Cuellar goes - and I agree that RB is perhaps the position we're slightly light in. I do like Lichaj, however, and think he might be fine as Young's back-up. A more senior RB being signed would lessen the risk though; Young's missed quite a lot of football in the past season or so.

If we only make one more signing this summer, it needs to be centre midfield. I like Makoun, but he needs someone strong next to him. Not sure that man is Petrov. It could be Delph, but it's a big role for a young lad who has played about 15% of games in his two seasons so far, for a combination of reasons.
