Beastlike central midfielder for peanuts?

Mahamadou Diarra it is then.

He is exactly what we need. Box to box battler with great aerial power and a massive presence. On a free !!! With him and Dann i would expect a top 6 finish and a long run in a cup competition ..........

Isn't he a bit injury prone?

Once we conclude the N'Zogbia deal it would really be a shame for the club not to invest in a strong ball winning CM and CB...if one of those could be captain material even better. Things are already looking better but just 2 signings could make the world of difference to how we perform and finish next season,

He had a serious knee injury 2 years ago and considered quitting. He had surgery and think he has been ok since .......

642 pages so far. 2 best players sold. 10+ released. A least 2 spongers still on books eg Beye & Heskey. 1 mediocre keeper signed. Reverse gear. Relegation scrap ahoy.

&

mediocre keeper ?  are you for real- given has been and still is one of the very best keepers in the premiership.

Hopefully. The OS said he was in a tussle with Joe Hart. No. Joe Hart was the Friedel to his Marshall.

Hart is better than most keepers. Then again, so is Given.
You'll see that he's better than Friedel anyway.

However, McLeish is all too aware that the Premier League is a restless, uncertain institution. "We finished ninth last season, can we better that?" he said. "It will be extremely difficult, given the way that every team has been gearing up.

"Sunderland have signed 10 players while Stoke City are linked with many players on extortionate transfer fees. I wouldn't want to shout from the rooftops that we will be competing for the top four. I'd be a fool."

we need both in the squad ( from telegraph )

If Ireland did perform well then it may lead to a re-think of Villa’s plans to try and sign Scott Parker from West Ham United. Certainly securing N’Zogbia from Wigan Athletic has been the priority after the selling of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing.

It is also clear that Villa owner Randy Lerner does not want to spend heavily — after acquiring Darren Bent for £24 million in January — and wants McLeish to achieve more with the current squad.

So because an attacking midfielder has started playing well we decide not to sign the defensive midfield player who would complement him perfectly? Strange line of argument assumed by that article.

We don't need 3 wingers, but do need 3 wingers/ wide midfielders imo, a Kranjcar/Cole/Benayoun type option would be nice.

Can anyone else suggest any busted flush/highlight players for us to avoid at all costs?

If you asked me for a list of five hugely over-rated players to avoid at all costs, Joe Cole and "Kranjcar" would be right at the very top of that list. Benayoun less so, but he is just so injury prone and I fear he he has gone way beyond his best anyway now..

Correct. Kranjcar especially.
At least Cole used to be really good.
