most of 'em do nowadays. Papers like the Guardian are just as bad and its no wonder when you find the guy now pretending to be a writer on a broadsheet started off on the gossip page at the Daily Star. All of them are cut from the same cloth.

That's just not true. You really do just make up shit, don't you. The broadsheets just don't devote the same amount of space to transfer gossip and so don't have to invent stories in the way that the Sun, Mirror etc do.

I agree Greg, I'd much prefer cuellar to upSon but I daresay the £2m transfer fee makes a difference-probably wages would be about the same- not sure that Carlos wants to go to rangers though.

They're all 99% bullshit whatever paper you read. The Mirror's no worse than any other publication.

True, if you limit yourself to tabloids that is. The quality papers tend not to have pages and pages of rumours.]

True chris but neither do they have tits!

I really don't know no what to say to that.

thats just middle class snobbery imo Chris. The press is an incestuous business and no doubt in 10 years time if Kendrick gets his way he'll be writing a column in a broadsheet with a nice picture above his name, and his "Mr X to Villa" story will be forgotten.

I'm not middle class.

It's a statement of fact. You get several pages of transfer rumours in tabloids, they try to mention as many clubs as possible so that fans of all of them will buy it. You just don't get that in The Guardian etc.

Individual journalists might move between papers but they then have to work within the ethos of that publication.

Whichever paper I find the national press mainly seem London and Manchester obsessed and we get little attention in comparison-especially the year we won the title we were widely portrayed as a flash in the pan side and not given the credit deserved.

ah, so the second they walk through the door into the Guardian, the guy who was writing typical tabloid pish suddenly gets a sense of responsibility and an IQ, along with a posh font and a thesaurus?

Hmmmm...an interesting theory.....

Great. An ageing has-been centre half from a relegated side and a forward slightly less prolific than Heskey. On second thoughts i think Lerner needs to put the club's future first and cut back a bit more. Complete ban on incoming transfers should do it.

Damn you Lerner, thou will be judged upon baseless transfer speculation, and critcised for not spending by a man who hasn't contributed anything financially to the club in five years.

We're allowed to discuss these rumours Lee and i do find it a bid odd that the ones you don't like are baseless while you're quite happy to talk about the ones you want to happen

Greg, I post on this thread every now again, when I can squeeze one in between you and eastie.

I, as I'm sure it's clear to anyone without their head up their own arse, was posting in reaction to you having a dig at the club on the basis of a rumour that is in all probability made up by a journalist.

Turn the record over, it's getting a bit boring. There's only so much of appeal in someone becoming a charicature of themselves.

It wasn't a serious dig, nor meant to be taken quite as serious as you seem to have taken it. I certainly wasn't implying i believe the story to be true. Sometimes i fear my comments get lost in translation

This nzogbia report about a medical seems to be just rumour as no mention of it elsewhere- I'm off to watch the test match - no doubt nothing of a transfer note is likely to happen today.

They don't get the job unless they've got the IQ in the first place. Journalism is a career like any other, you have to work your way up. You don't walk straight into being a feature writer at The Times. Journalists will write what the owners and editors require. So, just as there would be little point in presenting an article on the US impasse on raising the debt limit to the Daily Star readership, it would equally be a waste of time expecting readers of the Telegraph to want to read invented stories about proposed transfers.

As usual you're just arguing the sake of it. Next time your carer calls round ask him to bring you a couple of papers so that you can see for yourself.

No need to get arsy chris. You're obviously blinded by typefaces and style over content. I'm sure if you found a leather bound Jeffrey Archer book in the classic literature section of your local bookstore you'd be claiming he was up there with Shakespeare

I've never understood why papers and lads mags sell on the basis of 'tits'.

If you want to see birds with their kit off, you'd just buy a jazz mag wouldn't you?

Not so, I'm very interested in Chantelle, 21 from Manchester's take on current events.
