He's a decent winger, definately good enough. If we play 4-3-3 however, i'm not sure he has the 'cutting inside' capabilities of an N'Zogbia, which is a pretty important skill to have for a wide player in that formation.

I don't give a toss whether we sign N'Zogbia or not to be honest, he's certainly not the world beater that we all think he is anyway, he plays for Wigan
and no one else is interested apparently, some catch he is.

The only exciting thing about the new season for me is the fact we are going to have to play some very good youngsters, and that for me is worth turning up for, far more interesting than watching a load more mercenary overpaid players that think they are doing us a favour, most of which turn out to be top quality toss baskets.

If we don't make another signing, so what, send on the kids and believe

Hurrah for john e.

I couldn't agree more mate, I'm exited for next season because I think some genuinely talented young players are going to get the chance to show what they can do.

It's going to be the making of us, I think.

Why haven't Man U/Liverpool signed him?  Don't know - maybe it's because Young and Downing are English and they need to get their number of homegrown players up.
As far as the rules are concerned, N'Zogbia is just as home-grown as Young or Downing.

Indeed, he could have played for England.

He does appear festively plump all year round, and reminds me quite a bit of Andy Reid.

ASTON VILLA’S £10M N’ZOGBIA COUP

Charles N'Zogbia will undergo his Aston Villa medical in the next 24 hours
Sunday July 24,2011
By John Richardson  Have your say(0)
CHARLES N’ZOGBIA will interrupt a four-day break in Dubai to complete his £10million move to Aston Villa.

An agreement was finally reached last night for the Wigan winger, after Villa had originally refused to up their £9m bid, and he will undergo his medical in the next 24 hours.

New Villa boss Alex McLeish will next try to sign West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, providing the Hammers lower their £8m asking price.

Sounds good to me .........

The goings on at board level at Villa Park are very worrying no matter what anyone says. If they at least communicated with the fans to say something like the '"level of wages as a % of turnover were unsustainable but we will continue to invest in the right players if they become available, bla bla bla" it would at least give some clarity. In the absence of communication it is only natural some are fearing the worst.

Bringing in 36m this summer selling our best two wide players (Ashley Young was our best attacking player since Yorke imo) and only investing 13m or so is not particularly ambitious especially since a load of other players have recently left the wage bill too - Friedel, Davies, Sidwell, Carew, Reo Coker, Salifou, Osbourne, Pires and Cuellar just about to. Yet all the rumour seems to be that Nzogbia will be the last signing to come in at Villa Park this summer even if Cuellar goes which is very worrying.

Other unnecessary costs, 3 managers in 12 months and the host of pay outs that has brought about. Not to mention the RAL annual repayment fee.

I guess we will have to try and look forward to the football. There are young players coming through but its expecting a bit much for them, Albrighton in particular to play 30+ EPL games this year. Maybe he is ready but its a bit of a risk imo for him to live up to Young in particular. Surely a change of manager can see an improvement in the likes of Dunne, Collins, Warnock and Ireland but its Alex McLeish we are talking about not Jose Mourinho and he had players going off on the piss before critical games last season for Bham. Im really worried about the centre of midfield, question marks against all our contenders to play there. Huge season for Delph, he has got to nail down a regular place there and early on. I'm not as concerned at centre half but the injury prone duo of Young and Warnock seem to be the only contenders at full back too which is a huge risk imo unless Lichaj is ready to play 10 or 12 games this season which I doubt.

Rather have SWP cheap than Jarvis, rather have Zog than either. Jarvis seems like a poor version of Ray Graydon on a wet day if that.

I wish I could believe it, I actually got excited last night when I seen it! But woke up and nothing about it on OS or sky sports or anywhere not even much on Twitter!

I just wish we knew what was happening

a lot of the newer posters here seem to be very ready to spend Mr Lerner's money for him.Just like some women are ready to spend their hubbies hard earned wages or city authorities spend our council taxes.

I'll trust him to do what is right and is best for the Villa

Well that Sanchez fella joined Barca for £23m so if we got £20m or slightly below then we definitely got a good deal.

Based on recent sales I'd suggest the Downing fee is the abdominally and the other fees represent the player's actual talent:

Sanchez £23m
Young £16-18m (last year of contract LYOC)
Nzogbia £10m (LYOC)

Downing £20!!!! Yeah right. I'd say, based on the above he'd be worth about £8m, which is probably what we'd get if his contract had one year left.

That's the kind of comment that make you "sit-up" and take notice

It would seem that the N'Zogbia story from the express has been copied by the people, and they reckon we are going for Upson, a good player 2 years ago but not so good recently, and the scottish Maradona, McFadden.
