You didn't answer the question, Greg. Which positions?

We need at the bare minimum (assuming N'Zogbia joins) another winger, a central defender, a left back and a central midfielder.  If you add Given to that, that's six players.

As it stands we have 4 cntre backs, without selling we can't carry another.

We have Young, Warnock and Baker for left back. Young, Beye and Lichaj for right back. Do you think they'll sanction another without moving one on?

I agree about another wide man if he's intending to play with two every week.

Central midfield, I'd love Parker but again we have 6 players already for those positions.

If it was down to me I'd be signing the players and not worrying about it but as we've been told repeatedly the wage bill has to be managed and the type of spending you are suggesting without getting rid of players first will take us back to square 1.

Just because there is players there, don't mean they're any good. Jesus, not buying a fullback because Beye and an untried kid are in the squad is suicidal

not sure if this has been posted already

Interesting extract:

“We’re going to utilise the squad. We bought two players in in January as well. We have a wage bill to contend with so I can’t buy willy nilly. I can’t just discard these players, say ‘You’re not going to be in our plans and Mr Lerner can you give me another £10 million and wages for another player?’.

“But Randy’s got a plan and fans should trust him.”

McLeish is very clever in this, he's shifting it onto Randy so even if we play shit, fans will turn on Randy for not backing him.

the only thing it boils down to is how highky you rate the youngsters coming through,
there must be 6 or 7 that could play regular in the first team,
but are they good enough, or are they good enough yet ?

i think the current crop are very good, i would be happy to see them given a chance, and see them progress,
i would already prefer Allbrighton to Downing, and Bannan for NRC, even if we still had those two at the club.
we certainly wont go down with them, and hopefully they could develop into a strong team for the future,
lets face it its the only way if we arent going to be spending big money anymore.

i would just like the board to be open and tell us, 'look we arent going to be buying big name players but we are going to develop the youth and see where we go'
i reckon a lot of supporters would get behind that policy. i would

theres only one thing better than bringing in a marque type signing, and thats seeing one of your own develop and become that star player

No he's not. He's saying the club has a plan, and he agrees with it. It's about responsible stewardship. As a club, and that includes us, we should be in this together to ensure the club is run properly as opposed to spending yourself into debt. It's exactly what Arsenal do, though Wenger has probably take conservatism to an extreme.

Yet if we buy your 6 players we'll be back up at the same level again.

I wasn't demanding 6 10+m 50k a week players. just some cheaper replacements for key players and cover

Untill he moves on he's taking up a slot in the squad and a chunk of the wage bill. Or are you suggesting the thing that you criticised MON for and keeping him but not playing him?

*sigh* he's not gonna move on the likes of Beye. NO-ONE WILL TOUCH HIM WITH A BARGE POLE BECAUSE OF HIS WAGES. playing a totally shite player and not getting in a replacement just compounds the mistake and 30 a week for a decent replacement for Beye is  a lot cheaper than getting relegated

Wouldn't worry too much about it, even when we do qualify we don't last five fucking minutes.

Does anyone even know what RL's plan is?  When they first took over, we had a five yr plan.  Now that things look glum, there is nothing coming from the powers above about our new plan.  This is what annoys me about the Villa and their board at the moment.  We as fans have every right to know the new objective and the plans going forward.  The silence from the club is deafening and out of order IMO.  Ok, we are now fully aware that we wont be spending big, we'll be reducing wages and we will be utilising the squad.  What about the new goals?  What are our new aims?
