Just on Bent, I honestly don't think he wants to go anywhere, the fact is he moved because the location suits, so does the money, he's a fans favourite so why the hell would he move, he's in the England side.

Look i was quite prepared for us to rationalise the squad, even in favour of it. But 14 players out (and 5 of them regulars) and only 2 in, isn't rationalisation its asset stripping.

I normally don't bite to your posts but using the '14 out' argument is just ludicrous. Are you seriously suggesting that letting players like Pires, Osborne, Salifou, Berry, Deeney, Flanagan, Forrester and Halfhuid go (half of whom I've never even heard of) has any impact on anything other than the wage bill? With Given's arrival we are down 4 (two of them our best players which is a huge concern) and one of those was on loan. Arguably Carew may be missed as well but saying we're 14 down is a bit silly.

greg has always been a glass half empty man !
Dunne was shit most of the time at Citeh - thats why they got rid.. He's also not getting any younger or slimmer probably. Collins is erratic at best. Warnock was bobbins before GH arrived so blaiming his form on GH is wishful thinking to say the least. Petrov struggles to last 90 minutes anymore. I really think we'll struggle to stay up with injuries and lets face it we don't need last years injury list to be down to the bare bones - we already are. The only upside is the youth players as i think some of them could step up this season but really again thats just hope.

dunne was player of the year in 2 of his last 3  seasons there and was loved by fans, hardly shit greg!
would you spend an extra £30m in the hope of getting to 6th and an extra £3m in prize money thereby losing £27m?

i wish we had an owner splashing millions but randys dream appears over and realism has set in.

one wide man coming in is ok as i doubt we will use 2 wingers in any case, and makoun on signing did say he is very effective as a defensive midfielder and can play either midfield role,

So Mr Nash, given the squad as it is now, with no other players sold but assuming CNZ signs, which other positions would you like us to sign? In answering please take note of your long standing campaign against the previous manager for having players on big wages but not contributing.

I said on another thread we needed 6 minimum in and i could live with that, so 5 now Given's arrived. I don't think that would be pushing the boat out considering the wages we've cut down on and the 35 odd million brought in.  Obviously you think its untold extravagance to have more than untried kids in reserve.

maybe he would want  to have the chance of winning trophies and playing in the chumps league ?

We know McLeish uses the loan system fairly well. I'd be amazed if he didn't get a few loans in before the end of the window if need be.

maybe 2 decent loans to bolster things up would be enough.

A far cry from when Mr Lerner Sir took over and everybody was predicting us stomping all over Europe like A German Stormtrooper with St.Vitus' Dance.

Predictions of world class players and the like.

Now we're hoping to scrape a few loans from the Premier big boys.

It hasnt been the dominating return to the very top we hoped for but it's hardly suprising that fans get carried away with the momentum of positive news.

A couple of loans (that could be from anywhere, not just the premier league) needn't be a bad thing.
They're our players for a season, which is a little less than the average Premier league player stays at a club for now anyway. If it buffs the numbers out, which is what fans are complaining about, what harm?

We need at the bare minimum (assuming N'Zogbia joins) another winger, a central defender, a left back and a central midfielder.  If you add Given to that, that's six players.

Okay which top 4 club would want him? Only club i could see him leaving for is Arsenal but Wenger won't purchase him due to his age and value. DB is here to stay!

Seems I'd have more chance of a straight answer from David Cameron.

Given that you want 6, which positions do you think they should be in?

downing/young replacements, or cover for allbrighton. A good centre half, fullback, centre midfielder

if a club playing champs league or challenging came in for him he might well go, but i cant see who thats going to be,

although he is a great goal scorer and has been for years, he's still a rather limited footballer in every other respect,
i'm not moaning goals will do for me, but the top clubs maybe look for that something extra, like a bit of ball control and a bit more technical ability, this must be the case or he would have been snapped up by the Man u's of this world because his goalscoring record is as good as anyones.

lets face it Downing would still be happy playing at Villa if it hadnt been for Liverpools interest

As it stands we have 4 cntre backs, without selling we can't carry another.

We have Young, Warnock and Baker for left back. Young, Beye and Lichaj for right back. Do you think they'll sanction another without moving one on?

I agree about another wide man if he's intending to play with two every week.

Central midfield, I'd love Parker but again we have 6 players already for those positions.

If it was down to me I'd be signing the players and not worrying about it but as we've been told repeatedly the wage bill has to be managed and the type of spending you are suggesting without getting rid of players first will take us back to square 1.

people keep saying £40m in but what about the £36m loss last season?  under the new financiak rules we need to cut our cloth accordingly and we are paying the price for the wasted millions of a couple years ago of which randy must accept part of the blame.

sidwell, beye, heskey, and co have cost us so very dearly and contributed so very little.
was surprised to read dann reportedly wants £35000 a week to join stoke-peanuts compared to some of our lot.
