It is now abundantly clear why we ended up making the managerial appointment we did.

You have to feel sorry for him. If they really are going to do such minimal spending it is abundantly clear that they knew full well they were appointing an unpopular manager in order to deflect the blame from themselves.

The General said last week on villa talk, "why would any villa fan not want us to sell Downing for 20m?"

Well, there's the answer.

Well there goes all the of the comments from the General that Randy always backs the manager. This is fucking shocking.

Perhaps McLeish is happy with the size and quality of his 22 man squad. Perhaps he genuinely sees Beye, Warnock and Ireland as like new signings.
He may be wrong. He may be right. It's his judgement that's on the line.

Who would play wide midfield if albrighton or n'zogbia are injured? Bannan and the fonz? Hogg? Yikes!

Just think back to his comments about Downing; he wan't for sale, he'd have to deal with the disappointment. Then we sold him. You cannot take too much that is said at this time of year at face value.

Whether he does or not, Randy will have left him hung out to dry when it fails.

I'd be prepared to bet that we sign more than one more player between now and the end of August.

Anyone fancy taking me up?

I wouldn't. In fact I don't believe for one second that we only have one more signing left in us. I'll happily eat my hat and everyone elses if come Sept 1st our squad has only one extra new body.

McLeish looked & sounded pissed off on the BBC clip I saw of him tonight - there would have been a glimmer of hope if he had winked when he made the statement regarding ONE MORE PLAYER but he definately had a poker face on

......... didn't Ron Saunders use the same ploy (or is my memory playing tricks).

And our defence invoves relying on Warnock coming off hunger strike, and the two clowns in the centre who let us down so badly last year starting to give a shit again.

Hopefully it's all bullshit, some game as we are in negotiations with a batch of clubs over players and all wil want to sell us our "one more player". We can then do a press conference with 8 new players. *wishful thinking smiley*

The biggest problem now though is that I can believe that we could well only sign one more player before the transfer window shuts. And i'm sure most posters here can believe that it could be true as well. That's how much our image of Randy has changed in the past 12 months or so.

Exactly.  The gullible nature of quite a few here is pretty stunning.  Why do you think AMC put the statement out there?  Because he knew everyone would eat it up, including those at WAFC.  Mission accomplished.  He's got everybody talking about it, and I bet Whelan is too.

Remember the time when supposedly the club didn't have enough money to buy a striker?  Time to sack up, folks.

Hogg is a long, long, long way from being good enough for the premier league in reality.

Central midfield we have lost our best performer on a free in Reo Coker. Leaving us Petrov, Makoun, Delph, Ireland and Bannan. Ie short. At the back we are ok, until Cuellar goes then we have 3 centre halves and Baker, who again looked way off being ready to me. Left back is covered by the first choice right back, or the reserve centre half, and right back by Beye who is about 33 and not kicked a ball for 18 months in anger. Wide midfield (this is Eck who said expansive with wingers) at the moment is just Albrighton. NZogbia would be a good signing, but why would he come? When they say to Villa, what are the plans for other signings?? Silence will descend. Ok thanks big Eck, but we will sit it out at Wigan for a season then go free to a club with a smidgin of ambition.

We are in a right state and while the silence from the boardroom was all well and good when things were going ok, right now we need some kind of leadership and communications of the vision to fans to at least manage the expectation. It stinks to be honest.
