In defence of Drenth, he wasn't paid by Hercules for monthsand went on strike with the support of his team mates (according to the guardian podcast).

He's potentially a great signing. Could play anywhere on the left, even as a bombing leftback with Delph playing narrow in front of him. Albrighton as a traditional right-winger on the other side.

I reckon he'd be cheap too.

 If Wigan keep messing us around how about a couple of leftfield options in Lewis Holtby from Schalke and Per Mertesacker from Werder Bremen? Heard a report the other day their respective teams are desperately trying to raise funds by selling players. Definately worth looking at the German leagues. Doesnt look like anyone else apart from Given will be brought in before the tour which is very disapointing imo. Same ol' Villa eh?

If this is true I would be seriously worried about what type of player we are trying to bring to Villa Park

Edu isn't good enough for us 98% of time in SPL so can't see him excelling in Premiership

Given is done and dusted so next please - nzogbia , and dann before Friday I hope- can't see Parker happening unfortunately ,but with cuellar going I have a feeling dann will arrive .

You are correct dave, sky reported arsenals interest in downing but once again it appears their sources were wrong!

Mertesacker is one of the best backs in the world, would be another Laursen come Mellbergesq type figure for us only better, this is precisely the kind of player I would throw serious money at, get him, get the whole back 4 right, get your defensive structure in midfield right, if this bloke is available we should do our utmost to make him Villa's

Villa are a top European club, what you on about, if you mean he would only consider playing for a club involved in the Champions league, maybe, maybe he fancies the challenge, one things for sure, if we don't try we will never know.
