Bloody hell, if Nzogbia is going to cause all this much pain between fans, maybe we should just let him be!
It's daft.
There shouldn't be any pain, we all seem to rate him and it just seems to be one of those transfers that isn't cut and dried.
It will happen so it's not worth getting steamed up about.

I sense wily old fox Whelan airing his dirty linen in public again, trying to up the ante through the media. Not entirely convinced with SSN these days - they'll stick any old headline on: BREAKING NEWS!!!!

My guess would be that Wigan sat on our bid over the weekend hoping another club would provoke a bidding war.  Since then all other teams who were linked have backed away so DW is trying to squeeze the last pennies he can from us.  He'll sign before we fly to Hong Kong...or I'll eat my lamb chop.

Better start eating your lamb chop as villa seem to take an age making signings or completing signings i.e. Shay Given.  Betting suspended weeks ago, bid finally agreed last week, medical past on the weekend but yet still no annoucement! I think Villa only work Mon-Fri 12-3pm and thats it.

The hold up is at their end, he's trying to agree his severance with them, the same happened with Dunne and Ireland.

Has anyone thought whether Nzogbia might or might not want to come to Villa rather than will Wigan let him go and how much?  I think he wants to stay in the north west.

What makes you think that?
No evidence to suggest he doesn't want to come.
I don't think the negotiations would have got this far if he wasn't interested.
The agent will be in the middle of it all anyway.

Because most of the talk has come from Wigan not the player.  I think he said he would like to go to Everton after Liverpool weren't interested anymore and the two Manchester clubs have bigger fish to fry.  He also said he doesn't want to uproot his family.

That's right.
I seem to remember the Dunne one dragging on a long time as he was trying to cadge money out of them.

The Given transfer has taken longer because of his compensation package from City, he's taking a sizeable pay cut to come to VP I'd guess.  There's no-one tighter than the very rich when it comes to settling debts.  Wigan need to sell, we need to buy, there appears to be a shrinking field of suitors... cheer up you big lezzer =P

Did he consider it realistically or just make huge wage demands to kill the deal rather that be honest and say "I wouldn't come to this hole if it was the last footbal club on earth"?

I don't think there are any quotes of him saying that, it's just speculation. I'm not saying you're wrong just that there's always so much stuff written about any transfer I tend to take most of it with a pinch of salt.

Maybe he wanted to go to Birmingham because he rated and liked the manager.  Maybe thats helped our position now.  I know thats a lot of maybes, but if McLeish's first two appointments are Given and Nzog, I think thats pretty good going.  If he maintains that standard from now on, you would be hard pressed to complain.  Dann and a.n.other winger would be a great transfer window for me.  I can see us utilising the youth, which as an ST holder, I can think of nothing better than watching our own lads come through.  They are much more likely to want to stay with us, through improved loyalty, and already being settled, a better start to wage structure, and if they do go, its far better for our books against a bought in player

Think if we make another bid straight away for Nzogbia we'll doing ourselves no favours as can see Whelan rejecting that too in an attempt to get price up, think we need to make enquiries about alternatives, give Whelan something to think about.., would love to see deal done quickly but think this may run for a while yet, hope I'm wrong...

Perhaps that's part of the problem Chris.  We don't seem to know much about him really.  He seems to be a quiet guy who doesn't spout off to the press or perhaps he leaves that to Whelan.
