One down?  Though seeing as it's 'arry, expect Spurs to wrap this up by Monday morning:

REDKNAPP DOUBTS PARKER MOVE
By Pete O'Rourke

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted the club are unlikely to move for West Ham star Scott Parker.

The England midfielder is expected to leave Upton Park as he seeks to stay in the Premier League following the Hammers' relegation.

Aston Villa are believed to have made a £7million bid for Parker, while Chelsea have been strongly linked with a loan move for the England international as they seek cover for the injured Michael Essien.

Redknapp has never hidden his admiration for Parker and the Spurs boss has been tipped to make a new move for the 30-year-old after seeing a bid to sign the former Newcastle man rebuffed last summer.

However, Redknapp insists Spurs are unlikely to move for the England international due to the finances involved.

"If you take into account the fee of around £8m, signing on fees and wages you're talking about a £30m deal," Redknapp told the Sunday Mirror.

"There is no way the club would sanction a deal for a 30-year-old who would have no resale value at the end of his contract."

Can't argue with that if spurs are pulling out. Exactly why we should keep away.

Have we had any sightings of Dunne yet? Did they have to hire a crane and take off the dressing room roof to get him in? I really think his past caught up with him last season and unless he's spent the summer on a diet he's not going to be in much better shape.
In the footage on AVTV when they reported back, he looked pretty slim and reasonably fit - diet Guinness I reckon - but looks can be deceptive....

Looked in OK shape last week.

A Citeh fan did say to me that his biggest problem is motivation, when he's up for it he's as good as most in the country. We seen that ourselves in 2009/10. For about two thirds of last season though he wasn't at the races, the double error that led to B-lose first goal in the League Cup QF being a particularly low point.

The season before, he was so good that we barely missed Laursen.

You can maybe get away with forwards or wingers who go from one extreme to the other, but not a centre half. Collins was none too clever either, it must be said. But maybe they'll benefit from McLeish's defensive organisation and focus, as opposed to Gary Mac/ GH's unpopular methods.

If Big Eck does nothing else - and I have severe doubts he'll address some of our longstanding issues re movement off the ball, passing et.c- he should at least be able to stabilise the backline.

On the other hand, we could buy someone 25ish for half again and similar wages who turns out to be a flop and only get a small portion of the fee back. We have just made a shitload on Milner, Young and Downing, lets actually buy a quality player we are desperate for and pay the money. We are dropping wages left right and centre, as long as the replacements put us overall in a better financial position against turnover, i don't see a problem. You are almost guaranteed Parker will make a big difference, thats what its all about.

If we sign him and Given and then 3-4 more with potential sell on, ie N'zog and Dann for starters, we could strike a good balance.

Expect a Spurs bid early next week then. Why can't Redknapp just keep it shut. Incidently sounds like Dunne reckons Given is coming to Villa.

It's not just resale you've got to think about though. say we forked out 30m for Parker, even if he's a great success, we'd still need to pay similar again in 3 years time. Buying someone at 25-26 means you have the option of cashing in at the end of his contract or getting another 3 or 4 years out of him. After all this getting rid of older players on high wages, signing Parker would be a bit of an about-turn by the board to say the least.

I would'nt believe a word that lying cockney says. He enjoys every minute of winding down his car window and opening his big mouth to the press.

So who is out there at 25/26 that is as good as/better than Parker that we can realistically buy for £7m?

To be honest if he comes in and does a good job for 3 years that's good enough. You can't always look too far in to the future. Our younger midfielders will develop in that time as well.

Probably no-one as good currently we could get for 7m, but there's plenty with the potential, most likely abroad. Thats the whole trick isn't it? Its all very well buying the finished article but we haven't got the money or are able to attract them. Got to hope AM has the scouts and the contacts because other clubs manage it and its about time we started doing it.

reckon dunne will be our POTY this season. Huge season for him at international level too and think Given and himself will work well together. After Xmas he was our best defender last season I thought anyway, seemed to be struggling with injuries and his weight obviously but Wigan at home for example he was excellent late in the season.
The state he was in early last season was unacceptable alright, the home game v Bolton he was beyond a joke. Still reckon the complete collapse in form of our defensive players must have Houllier's fault to some degree. I think one thing McLeish will do is make us a hell of a lot more solid. Given is a far better keeper than Friedel too. But Id be more worried about Collins (who was way worse than Dunne last season imo) and Warnock (simply cant be as bad again but I dont rate the cowardly whining idiot either).

Looks like Luke Young for right back, could do with him being injury free for a change. Bit risky going with
L Young, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Clark as our defensive roster next season. Lichaj and Baker probably still a bit off being comfortable for 10-15 games this season. How did Lichaj do at Leeds does anyone know? I suppose Habib Beye is still there, I think he actually played pretty well away at Sunderland last season but not sure he played again.

On the Parker thing, I'd go with Barton ahead of him to be honest. West Ham and their friends in the media trying to drum up interest in him at the moment. Id only bring him in if Petrov was going the other way. With Parker's injury problems we might looking at the 2011 Petrov version in a couple of years.

Dunne at his best was definitely better than laursen. At his worst he was worse than knight. I reckon he'll have a good year.

Bringing Parker in now would give us a great boost, I feel, but there is strong competition out there, and Spurs/Chelsea loan stuff may suit him at the moment.
A bit pie in the sky perhaps, but I'd love Milner back. Would he leave the bench at Citeh to come and run the show for us again?
