I reckon he will go for about 11-12 million. Inflated due to other prices but worth the money IMO. I would then go for that Dutch lad for 5-6 million if that is the fee. We need creative options, and if we accept that Ireland is going to be the main focal point of midfield with Bannan as back up.

Don't think Nzogbia will come, he's another mercenary!

If he was that good would he still be at Wigan?

Some games last season he just didnt want to know.

In one sentence you say he is a mercenary footballer and in the next you complain that him NOT moving means he's not good enough.

A player like Vargas would be inspirational and lift the place. Is there actually anything solid to this link?

I'd like to have a crack at Eden Hazard too.

Football writer's player of the season, current England first teamer and generally acknowledged as having real leadership qualities. I think £8m is not excessive, if we were selling him it's what I would expect to get.

As we approach page 500 we still await a signing- let's hope we aren't waiting on page 1000.

I'd really like us to sign Adam Johnson.  I don't think it's unrealistic either.

Sunderland boss Bruce wants winger N'Zogbia to complete the perfect 10

By Colin Young

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is poised to hijack Charles N'Zogbia's move to Aston Villa and match Alex McLeish's bid.

McLeish has identified Wigan winger N'Zogbia as the ideal replacement for Liverpool-bound Stewart Downing and is willing to match Wigan's £10million valuation.

But Bruce has refused to give up the chase on the Frenchman despite having two offers rebuffed by Wigan chairman Dave Whelan in the past 12 months.

The Sunderland boss and chairman Niall Quinn have signed nine new players in the summer but Bruce has yet to fill his problem left-hand side position.

He is now hoping to convince Sunderland owner Ellis Short to make N'Zogbia his 10th, and most expensive addition of the close season, while shedding at least three players from his current squad.

Bruce said: 'If you look at what we have in the squad, I think we have a really good balance now. We have four strikers, six or seven defenders and a host of midfielders as well. We're OK.

'I'm really happy and, if I don't do another thing, I'll be quite happy to go into bat with what we've got. We've got a good balance.

'But if there's one area where we're maybe a little bit short it's a natural wide left player, but there's not many of them about.'

If N'Zogbia chooses Sunderland over us, it'll show quite how far our stock has fallen.

Or how much more money he is offered.
