If we keep supplying Bent then with him alone we've got enough to win games without playing well.

That supply line is now in Lancashire though.
Yes, last seasons was. Add Kyle Walker to that too. But, it's obvious where we need to stregthen. Surely we won't neglect a wide player, or two?

I'd say we should give Ireland every opportunity to get his shit together and still sign a class attacking midfielder just to make sure.

That would be a mistake to me, as it would mean either an expensive new signing sitting on the bench or Ireland himself, and we know what that would lead to.  I'm happy enough for Delph or Bannan to come in if he proves to be as shit as he was last season.

We're really good in the summer market aren't we?

Players bought: 0

How many have we sold and released again?

How about:

Given
Young
Cuellar
Dunne
Warnock
Makoun
Delph
Ireland
Albrighton
Bent
Gabby

Subs:
Marshall
Clarke
Collins
Petrov
Bannan
Gardner
Fonz

Plenty of potential, at least.
Yes, potential. But I argued in an earlier post that we need to ensure a good core of experienced players and we currently lack that in full, particualrly in midfield. Petrov is not the 90-minute man we need, although I still think he has a role to play at VP. So a Parker-type player is what's missing along with keeper. Once those two positioons are crdibly filled, we can focus on FB and Downing / AY replacement.
Then, it would make perfect sense to play the promising youngsters alongside a strong core of experienced specialists in the key positions.

Nzogbia made clear on deadline day he didn't want to go to Tyneside when they made a last ditch bid to sign him with the Carroll money- whelan said so himself that night and was cock a hoop.

When will Faulkner learn to get the replacements sorted before selling the jewels- now everyone we want the price will be bumped up as they know we have that sort of cash available- and stop insulting fans with this not for sale at any price Faulkner- less than a week later he's agreed a sale- they need to spend and spend well now as ambition of the board must be a question.

I expect Given and N'Zogbia to be on that flight to Hong Kong next week. I know that there's a lot of depression on here right now, but getting a couple of solid players in will lighten the mood. N'Zogbia has proven himself in the PL, and had more goals and assists than Downing last season in a worse team. You combine him with Bent and Gabby I think they'll cause a lot of damage.

I'm cautiously optimistic still, and as I expected Downing to go, his actual departure hasn't really changed anything for me. We've got this distraction out of the way, and aside from players we would like to move on e.g Beye and Heskey, the other players seem to be relatively settled. It's a case of adding to what we have now so hopefully the balance of the summer will be preparing properly, bringing on the talented kids, and adding 4 or 5 more quality players.

Agreed.  If we could get Nzogbia, Given and Parker for the Downing money then the mood around here will lift dramatically.  Here's hoping!

yeah you would have thought it was basic common sense i mean we knew young,Friedel and walker were leaving had a good idea that reo coker and downing would leave but we didnt have a player in mind to replace any of these so that they could settle in to pre-season!

Makes we wonder what Darren bent makes of it all, he was impressed by GED and the prospect of supply from ash and downing and now 6 months on all 3 have gone.
