Although I'm sure well sign a good player or two before the window closes, we'd still have a great goal scorer in Bent who even feeding on scraps will get double figures.  Then we have some decent players behind him in Gabby, Albrighton and Delph, even if Ireland doesn't come good under a new manager.  AM also knows how to organise a defence, so we'll be tight with a few goals in us.  That alone says mid-table to me, provided we at least buy a keeper.

On the downside, I'm concerned he'll appraoch games too defensively, so even with the additions of say N'Zogbia and Parker, we'll be too conservative to push us any higher than that.  But, as always, time will tell.

Totally agree with you.  I really want Ireland to prove his worth and his doubters wrong.  As for Cole, he would be a waste of space at Villa.  He'll be there earning a living by sitting on the bench

I'd rather rehab a 24/25-year-old Stephen Ireland than a 30-year-old Joe Cole with a couple of serious injuries on his CV. Loved Cole in his day, but I think his day has been and gone now.
