As I understand it Johnson is a decent player, but it was Dann who was the brains/organiser of their defence. Johnson is a good defender for £7m, but no better than what we already have.

I'd have liked to see Roger Johnson here , a solid defender and good value at that price - flog dune to wolves and get Roger .

Harris making noises about how he likes parker so I reckon we have no chance now- should have got him earlier before this modric dust up.

Wigan were the ones saying £9m for nzogbia so I imagine he must have that clause, why is given taking so long?

The way it's going someone will step in and snap him up before us, it's really depressing seeing Sunderland bring in nine and other clubs doing their deals while we seem to be standing still.

Disagree- better than Collins and dunne as far as I'm concerned .

Eastie, have you looked at the Sunderland Nine?, includes Wes Browngivestheballaway (With a very promising future behind him) John OShit, et al? I am hardly worried or concerned about what Chunderland are up to. Parker I love, but worry about his age and fitness. We dont have an unlimited chequebook, and even if we did, I would prefer we spent carefully in what is an already wholy unrealistic market. Nzog at 9million if he was ever available at that price would seem a good deal, but I think that would make him one of our top ten most expensive players. Is he that good? 20million?

Dann is definitely the better out of the 2. I have a couple of blue nose mates and they rate Dann much higher than Johnson. Cant see it happening either. All of a sudden it is unlikely we will be signing Nzogbia, Parker and Hutton! What is going on?

He had a better season than them last time around, but Collins and Dunne circa 09/10, who I'm expecting to see again under McLeish, then I'm afraid he simply isn't.

Said before on here that Dann would have been a priority signing for me, then the whole AM thing kicked in and complicated matters to say the least...OR...perhaps opened a door or two? Would love him here, shift Dunny on and we have a good defence with plenty of cover.

The thing is whoever said we were going to be signing those 3 players in the first place ? I think now we will just have to wait right up to August 31st and personally I expect Given, 1 or 2 as yet unspeculated on buys and a couple of loanees.

This is typical Villa in the Summer transfer window. Sell / release players with no replacements coming in - the ''small squad'' quotes will soon resurface. Once again crap preparation for pre-season - add in a couple of injuries in these warm up games then panic will soon set in. They're just clowns that run Villa, no wonder MON got out.

I like Dann and wouldn't knock signing him, but given the amount of CBs we have (Dunne, Collins, Clark & Cuellar) I don;t think a new CB could be classed as a priority. With the remit I'm guessing Mcleish has, to get the best out of the underperformers, then quite the opposite in fact.
