So, the summary on July 11 is:

1. N'Zogbia - no.
2. Hutton - no.
3. Parker - no.
4. Given - yes, probably this week.

Scott Parker’s Upton Park exit is nearing, with Tottenham set to stave off a challenge from Aston Villa to secure the West Ham’s midfielder’s services.

According to a report on the Daily Mail website, a transfer could be finalised as soon as this week.

Parker, whose sterling performances last season earned him the Football Writers’ Player of the Season award, is desperate to avoid Championship football in a bid to reinvigorate his chances of adding to his rather meagre tally of 6 England caps.

Formal offers around the £7 million mark are expected this week as the rush to secure Parker’s services nears its end.

Having lost Ashley Young to Manchester United, Aston Villa are also facing a severe struggle to keep hold of Stewart Downing and Alex McLeish will have to be very canny in the transfer market in order to retain some midfield options.

Harry Redknapp will also be eager to bring players in, given that Wilson Palacios is to leave England for either Napoli of Paris Saint-Germain and Luka Modric could yet be on his way to Chelsea.

Though Parker is currently on a pre-season camp in Switzerland with the rest of Sam Allardyce’s charges, it is thought that he will jet back as soon as West Ham accept an offer.

At 30 years old, Parker will certainly feel as if he can offer a great deal to the Premiership and will be hoping for a suitor to come in as soon as possible.

It is true we do have a lot of midfielders trouble is it is yet to be proved any of them are above average. Petrov really can't see out a game, Ireland he's anybodys guess, we had them all availeable last season and we struggled in midfield, NRC the best tackler of the lot has gone. Apart from Given who i think is a certainty i really think we are not going to do much.I would say there will not be many big earners on villas books in the near future.

To be honest John, it's 10% believing the crap being peddled and 90% my own gloomy perception of things!

If it's between us and Spurs, they'll win every time.

Roger Johnson to Wolves fee agreed 7m. Would still like Dann, think they are going into meltdown so would be worth a 10m bid. Lerner has funded both previous mangers (MON-Houllier) so cannot see Mcleish being any different. Especially considering 10 players have gone off the wage bill .........

Not necessarily but it would make things more difficult. We can match or improve what they pay in salary and offer a better chance of starting games.
You dont expect to get that kind of player without a fight though.

I would have thought Johnson could have found a better gig than the Dogheads.

As much as Scott Parker is a good player he is injury prone. Paying a lot of money for a player like him who will no doubt want a big contract is in my opinion very risky. If you add in Given who also has a track record for injuries then Villa would be risking a huge amount fo money with no sell on value for either fo them. It is why West Ham got into so much trouble as they spent fortunes on older players who then got injured - Dyer, Ljundberg etc.

We may not like it but buying players who are young and developing them (Milner, Young etc) is far better for us even if we do end up selling them to a CL club for big bucks when they decide they have becoem to big for their boots. Until we develop from the Youth team players fo this calbre it is the only transfer policy we can follow without getting into serious financial trouble or being completely lucky with every older player we buy.

I'd rather we had a look at what we already have at the club for a season under AM with a few additions (GK obviously) and save money for enxt season, rather than panicing and buying a Parker who gets injured and sits in the stand on £60k a week for best part of 4 years.

Out of all the players we have been linked with the only one i woudl buy is Nzogbia but not for £20m. I'd rather we spent on soemone like Hoilet from Blackburn who looked towards the end of last season like a great replacement for Ashley Young.

Considering the amount the wagebill has been reduced then I'd expect we would see a few players coming in. Unless we are being fed bullshit by the club.

The media seem to contradict themselves from one article to the next probably in order for them to say 'We got that one right'. I do think even the most reliable of journalists only get information from sources within the club when they want them to know and even then it's what they want them to know.

I expect we will see signings this week.
