I'd be chuffed if we can get Bendtner as part of a deal with Arsenal, i think he'd be great as a partner for Bent. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

I wouldn't mind Bentdner.  Yes he thinks he's it, and yes he misses a few howlers, but I reckon there's a good player in there somewhere.  And I don't think it would be such a bad thing to have a guy with huge self-belief around the place.  A few too many of our guys are, well, not shrinking violets exactly but a bit too nice.  Big strong lad as well, which is always useful.

If Downing goes to Arsenal would that mean our target, N'Zogbia would end up at Anfield?

I said a while back that we should'nt do any deal for Downing until we have a replacement lined up. We can't afford to lose two wingers.

We cant do that as the only money available is for a goalie, the rest Mcleish has to generate by sales

There's more here on SD from sportinglife.com:

"Skysports.com understands Arsenal have lodged an £18million bid for Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing.

Arsene Wenger has been surprisingly quiet in the transfer market so far this summer, with the Gunners yet to show their hand.

It is, however, widely acknowledged that they will require fresh faces if they are to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

They may even struggle to retain their top-four standing if they fail to add, with a number of their rivals having been busy bolstering their ranks.

England international Downing has been identified as one possible new recruit, and it is understood that a big-money offer was put to Villa on Friday.

The 26-year-old has hinted that he will be on his way out of Villa Park in the near future, with contract talks having been shelved.

Liverpool are also keen on the former Middlesbrough man, and it is believed that they remain the favourites to secure his signature.

Kenny Dalglish is, however, yet to meet Villa's asking price and Arsenal are hoping they can lure Downing to the capital."

We don't know that for sure, it's only what Matt Kendrick has said and why would the club discuss the managers budget with a local journalist anyway? I would'nt read too much into it.

I'm not sure Betdner would play well with Bent.......now Walcott might interest me though.

Can't help thinking they'd get in each other's way a great deal of the time. Also get the feeling he thinks he's made it when he clearly hasn't...self-belief is one thing, being a complete arse (Hodge!?) is another....

Well being a bit of an arse isn't that unique in football....

As a partner for Bent I think he'd be very good indeed. Whenever I've seen him he tends to play all around the final third, creating chances as well bustling around in the box. He's strong, skilful and creative. I'd say he'd be a great signing.

It's not that attitude that bothers me with Bentdner I just don't rate him as a player.

In the interests of speculation, which obviously this all is, what would people think if it turned out the we swapped Downing for, say, £10million, Bendtner and Almunia? It seems unlikely given the, er, Given situation, but it mightn't be too bad a deal, that.

I'd still rather sign Given, mind.

I think it all depends on if we're playing 1 up front.
If we are then Gabby, Bent and Nathan are enough.
