Yes citizen I like the look of that team and plenty quality on the bench too.

I'm still not sure why we want another right back?  Luke Young, Carlos Cuellar, Habib Beye and Eric Lichaj can all play there.  Unless Warnock goes and we need to play Young on the left.

Because Cuellar, Beye and Lichaj are substandard there, Hutton wants to come and there are serious doubts about Warnock so LYoung may well play LB instead;

-----------------------------------Given-------------------------------
--Hutton----------------Cuellar-----------Clark-------------LYoung-

I'm not sure Vsm, i think we need a leader in there, Dunne was that man but after last season i've lost most of my faith in the fat fool. Clark should have another season of stepping in sometimes to build his experience up, he could come in for Cuellar and LYoung in that defence as and when. I would get rid of Collins, and have Dunne as back up to the new signing. If the new signing doesn't settle and Dunne looks more like his first season, we will be covered.

I can see your thinking, but in my opinion Clark is that leader you are looking for. The more I've seen him play, the more he reminds me of Gareth Barry when he first broke through.

I suspect though that Eck will start the season with Dunne/Collins in the centre though.

Thanks. What would the bench be, something like; Guzan, Young, Collins, Agbonlahor, Petrov, ?????

I've noticed the Barry comparison with Clark as well, he is a cracking little player. Not too sure about him at centre half though, but i think in time he could be a very good centre midfielder in the way Barry turned out to be.

I still feel that Ireland if he can rediscover his desire and form could be a massive player for us this season- we actually have some very good players here and if eck can unite everyone to pull together and instill that team spirit we could have a very decent season.

Ha! I forgot all about Ireland! Easily done, mind. Agree that when in form he can be excellent....but it seems like a long time ago that he was that!

I'm not sure where he'd fit in the team - probably best if we play a 4-4-1-1, with Ireland as the link between midfield and Bent/Agbolahor, sooooooooooo;

                     Given

Hutton      Cuellar    Dunne    Clark

Albrighton  Parker   Makoun  N'Zogbia

                     Ireland

                      Bent

Hmm. I don't know why I'm letting myself even think that Parker is an option, just a bit of wishful thinking. But yeah, Ireland could certainly play that role well enough....if he can be arsed.

That team citizen would be challenging for a top 6 place in my view and would also be exciting to watch- defence looks more solid, I like given, and with Parker , Ireland and nzogbia feeding bent I see potential for many goals too- bring it on eck!

What's more , Hutton , given, nzogbia and Parker would all be covered by the downing and young fees will change to spare hopefully.

For me Ireland plays best in a 4-3-3, so if we could get something like this I'd be very happy.

---------------------Given-------------------
---Hutton---Cuellar---Dunne---Clark---
---------------------Parker------------------
-----------Makoun---------Delph----------
---Ireland----------------------N'Zogbia---
---------------------Bent---------------------

Again vs , an exciting looking team and very solid through the spine.

See, that looks good too, VS.

Again, I'm sure we're just a couple of smart signings (not necessarily mega bucks ones) from being not only a good side, but a good side with a range of playing styles.

I really hope McLeish manages to fulfil that.

Maybe the three of us should apply next time round as a management team?? ;-)

I'm in charge, though...

Yes , I'm sure we could find a role for clampy cutting the grass too, but I'd make sure he only had a pair of scissors!

Easy game this football lark innit.
