only think parker is a good idea to come in if petrov leaves. when fit he is a very good EPL player. But he isnt quite footballer of the year material, he is injury prone and 30 plus. Allardyce also signed Beye for Newcastle I think so maybe Beye + Petrov + $$ (throw in Emile aswell maybe) for Parker might get a deal.

He is a poisonous little rodent but McLeish could do worse than get Bellamy in on the cheap. Can play as part of a 3 man forward line or 442. Again his best days are over and was wildly inconsistent anyway but would be a useful ally for him in the dressing room. Joey Barton with a year left on his contract is a good player, scumbag of course but would give some cover out wide and also centrally.

We arent a Champions League club and are short of money. We are going to have to take gambles with players. Parker, Barton and Bellamy would make us the feistiest team in the league, throw in Delph, Dunne, Collins etc and we wont be beaten in any scraps next season. All are good players too.

What is the basis of this link with Parker?
Good old fashioned hope or are there any quotes?

Would be delighted if this came off

I dont see what the obsession on here is with signing players 30 or over.

You would swear we were profit-seeking board members, not football fans.

I accept there has to be a level of realism in that we can't be buying all our players in the 30+ bracket for millions, but signings of Scott Parker's ilk suit us down to the ground. As it stands, our midfield is quite youthful (except Petrov) and a more experienced head in there is needed.

Look at City, they brought in Vieira and Barry to do jobs in their centre midfield. Man Utd may not have signed Giggs and Scholes, but they were deployed into centre midfielders in their 30s. Also, I would argue that Arsenal are missing a 30+ midfielder to give them more steel and experience.

Resounding yes from me to Scott Parker. £7 million? Maybe a little high, but I think for what we will get it could end up looking like a bargain. My only concern would be his injury record.

Out with a Nose mate last night (sorry but he's ok !) and he really rates AM and thinks with better players at his disposal will do well. Blues had no pace at all and we have plenty. Thinks he might play the diamond so if the Parker rumours are true how about as a front 6 :

                                                                    Parker

                                                   Makoun                     Delph

                                                                    Ireland

                                                               Bent       Gabby

Personally I think Downing will go sooner or later and that NZog is going elsewhere.

The attacking subs would be Bannan/Albrighton/Fonz

We don't have as much pace as we used to now that Young is gone and Downing likley to follow...

Scott Parker carries great leadership with him, that's a massive part of his game, he as it in him to push other players on when games are tough and to drive players on when ahead, in his case i think age and experience only adds to his qualities, for me this is a player that's got at least another 3 or 4 top seasons in him, great example to the younger players, mate of mine who's an Hammers fan will say every time, Parker is by and far there best player by a million miles.

Lets beat Spurs to the start grid on this, if 6ML to 7ML is what they are asking, lets do some business, get him down to Villa's state of the art training facilities, get toughened up and fitter and away we go.

Lets look at it realistically, for any team in the Prem at this time, if you wanted a real play maker that can hold up the ball, lead by example, link from defence to attack, Scott Parker has to be one of the first choices out there in the Premiership.

If its a question of money i would rather skimp on Hutton and go over the top for Parker.

I don't see Downing as particularly pacy, not any more so than Albrighton is he?

Agreed. We could get Clyne for under 2m I reckon and already have Young as insurance if Clyne doesn't step up.

With Young going and Downing looking likely we will forced to play a different game anyway....as we will be doing under AM, anyway....so, with Albrighton we have pace, an out and out winger, but the option to create more through the middle with someone like Parker (and maybe Ireland? Delph? Makoun?). The loss of our two "wingers" should/could make us a better footballing side!!??  (kneels down and prays!)

Good point, you only have to look at Scott Parker in a lot of his games to see him shouting and giving instructions, pushing players on, when did we last see that at Villa, and, if Spurs are dithering on this, my point would be, what the phuk are we fannying around at, these players don't come along that often.

Sure Downing doesn't have the pace of Gabby or Young, but he's no slouch either. Our game over a number of years was based on pace and having good wide players. I think it will be important to bring in players with pace because it is such a dangerous attribute. What was it Alan Hansen used to say, there's nothing defenders hate more than wingers/strikers with pace?
