I'd say he will go for £18m if he makes it clear he wants to leave- we will not get £20m.

People thought the same about Barry, but as they couldn't stump up the £18m asking price he stayed.

True but Liverpool are no longer paupers and will not pay what they believe to be an inflated fee- I think £18m is a fair price for both sides and would rather spend £18m on new players than have a sulking downing in the dressing room- he's no milner or young and is certainly replaceable.

They weren't paupers in 2008 either as they paid £17m for Glen Johnson that same summer.  The concept of 'fair price' is almost irrelevant given what they paid for Carroll and Henderson.  It's our price, which should start at £20m, or no deal.  Simples.

Absolutely.  They've made their bed when it comes to paying vastly inflated prices for players.  Now they have to lie in it.

I agree, this paupers stuff as it relates to them is utter bollocks. They bought Robbie Keane for £20m in 2008, and then lashed out £40m or so on Glen Johnson and Aquilani in 2009. And fair price for a player under contract is what he means to us right now. If that's £20m or £25m it has to relate to the impact of selling him, and the light it sheds on the club. If Liverpool come back with something theat meets our valuation and the player is being a complete cock then get rid.

But now Mcleish has said he is not for sale. This all becomes irrelevant ? obviously if he hands in a transfer request, that may change things. As Villa then collect more money as there are no compensation fees. PS why are Villa starting training so late ? there is a lot to sort out ........

The price is what we say it is.

Downing will keep playing even if he doesn't get his move, as he'd quite like to be in Poland next summer.

I really don't mind either way what happens with Downing. Him leaving won't be the same loss as Milner, Barry etc..

If he stays I'll be happy. And if he leaves for £20m I'll be (reasonably) happy too.

The players report back to training tomorrow so not really that late.

Decent enough player that the manager knows and we'd be getting for a reasonable sum.  7/10.

Yes, a predicatable move if true and not a bad player at all.

We are 5 days later than the Champions - and you would think the rest of us would have to do more than they have.  Cannot see the point of coming back on the Friday , unless they are coming back on Friday for tests then start properly on Monday ?

My flatmate is a Spurs fan. He reckons it was fairly well known that when Hutton had a spell on the sidelines through 'injury' he was really in The Priory with a coke problem.

Can I post that?
