I agree were all deluded and blinded by loyalty, but if you think 20 mill for henderson and think 12 is enough for Downing you need to take a serious look at yourself...
How about 16 mill for each?
Downing was £10m when he was an broken-legged winger coming off his worst-ever season having just been relegated.

He's since had his best ever season, sweeping the player of the year awards for his club and has two years left on his contract.

I'd say that's worth more of an increase, particularly when the potential buying club has spent (without wanting to get into a debate about the merits of the players on whom it was spent) a fuck-load of money on players who haven't played as well as he has.
I agree Downing played better and if that was the only factor in valuing him then he would rightly be worth more. If he was a similar age to Henderson and Carroll with a similar resale value, I reckon Liverpool would be willing to spend a fuck-load on Downing too.

How much more valuable than 35 million is Carroll going to get?

I understand the importance of resale value, but you couldn't come up with a less convincing argument than an inexperienced player who you've made something like the seventh most expensive striker in history.

Foster would represent an upgrade on Friedel. The Friedel of last season anyroad. Kept B-lose in a fair few games last season (including the LC quarter final).

As decent as Downing was last season, I'd rather see a natural rightfooter like Albrighton on that flank anyway. N'Zog or similar on the left and we're in decent shape for the attacking third again.

Milner coming back would be about the best deal I could imagine this summer. At a stroke it would lift the place.
I'm struggling to see it happening, but if it could...

I wouldn't totally rule out Milner returning but only late in the window and if City struggle to shift their deadwood.

it would be a masterstroke of Darren Bent proportions Maz. If the club wanted to appease the masses in one shot this one signing would likely do the trick. Off course it would only be the start but in CM we'd instantly have a player that contributes at both ends of the pitch. It would lift the fans. It would lift the squad who all understand his value. It would also dramatically improve his England stock heading into Euro 2012 at a time when the England central midfield isn't 100% certain. He also knows Capello knows the way to VP.

Like you I find it hard to believe. I will be happy to be blown over if it happens though.

If we've actually bid, you'd like to think/ hope there has been some prior contact to at least establish whether he'd be receptive to the idea of coming back.

Pointless bidding otherwise, just for him to turn round and say 'no,' if/when the bid is eventually accepted.

Two things we'd have in our favour:

1. He knows the club
2. More chance of him playing in his favoured position here -through the centre.

I'm pretty certain Citeh wouldn't sell to any club they'd view as a direct rival too, so that would hopefully rule out Tottingham and the usual suspects.

If Milner comes back, and it's a big IF, what makes anyone think McLeish would play him in the centre?  I know we can all see that he is better in the middle of the ground but his current club manager and international manager have a reluctance to play him there.

Because his current club and the national side have better players in the centre (or in the formers case they think they do), but we don't have that luxury?

BBC gossip is saying we are after a keeper called Ruffier, has anyone ever heard of him?

Stephane Ruffier , 24 yr old Goalkeeper , French Intl & capt of Monaco , who apparently are willing to sell their Player of the Year for around 3 mil Pounds , having just been relegated .
According to various British & French sources this morning its a choice between us , Fulham and Roma . Sounds like a bargain at that price , maybe worth a punt ...as they say .............Godzvilla! .
