It makes total sense that Foster will end up at Villa.

He's probably the best keeper on the market, Villa is probably the best club available to him, he wouldn't need to relocate and 'Eck has signed him once already.
The stumbling block is wether small heath will now do buisiness with us, I know there skint but I've got a feeling that there going to hold a grudge...

Someone I met whilst travelling is a Hoffenheim fan and reckons we're after Andreas Ibertsberger who plays for them. All I know so far is a defender and Austrian international.

You can't blame McLeish if he's going after someone like that. There is absolutely no value in the British market.

Anyone know if this Ibertsperger is any good?

Mate has since replied to my email - says he is an Austrian Left Back but is also comfortable playing on the right too (sounds like a foreign version of Luke Young!) Pretty decent in the air for his size (about 5' 11") and a beast of a left foot. Played in about half of Hoffenheim's games last season. Also said that he was late for a drug test a couple of years ago by 10 minutes and was facing a long suspension, only for it to be discovered that they hadn't been told by the Drug Officer that he was required for a test until 2 mins before hand.

From what he has seen of English football he thinks he'll do well for us, nothing spectacular but definitely reliable.

more talk of a £4m bid for Scott Brown up here and also saying McLeish hops to land N'Zogbia by weekend.

Like I said, the Henderson and Young deals may well have a bearing but if you think it'll be based on "Henderson cost £16m and Downing is a better player" or "Young went for £20m (or whatever reported fee you choose to believe) with only a year on his contract, then you're the one who's wrong, I'm afraid.

If you want to keep it in context, offset Henderson's fee against his age, his potential (be objective) and his resale value.

And factor Young's reputation plus his outstanding assist record over the past four years into the actual fee.

Then when you consider how much you paid for Downing and if he does end up handing in a transfer request, suddenly £20m doesn't look like such a bad deal.

Where to begin.

No, it would be based on just that and other things. You're still Jimmy McWrong 23, The Wirral.
The transfer market prices are determined largely by what people are willing to pay. You're willing to pay up to £20m for an average player so therefore you will be asked to pay more for a actual good one. See how it works?

O.K, why should I consider somebody's age if I dont rate him? Why should I consider potential I dont believe he has? What resale value will he therefore have if I dont rate him? Who's going to pay you anything for him if he's not particularly good?
I am being objective and I think he's average. If he was that good then the way the Mancs are hoovering up young English talent, they've had had him. But he's not. If I thought he was good I'd say so. I dont care who he plays for.

Why are you hinting that Young's fee isnt what I know it to be like some gobshite? I dont read tabloids. I know what the fee was because I've been reliably informed. What are you saying about Downing's reputation then? His isn't too shabby at the moment either.

And you say you can do better? He certainly can. He could go to a champions league club. He should do.
If you think your club is too good for Downing at present or that you're going to get him on the cheap, you're deluded. But then that's a trait not lacking in your support in my experience.
For what it's worth I said the price should start at £20m and if it is, fine. It's acceptable and we'll get on with it.
You were suggesting the fee would be less than that. No way.

Never seen Scott Brown do anything of any use - any Scottish football fans got any opinions?

10 million on N'Zogbia
10 million on Foster
5 million on Verhoek?
Then either a creative mid in the Adam mould or a right back? Could we get Walker back on loan with a fee agreed for next summer? I would really like us to get 2-3 punt players at 20-22 from the lower leagues that can come in and fill the squad/ side when need be and hopefully one will become a star. Chamberlain would be a starting point. Clyne is a good call from others.

That covers the Downing fee and the Young fee

Quote from Ozzjim:

Re Downing Louzie - the puff comment had nothing at all to do with his sexuality, and everything to do with the age old stereotype of weak and feebleness. Could have chosen the word better, but at the time of writing it I did not give a passing thought to the sexuality side of the word. Apologies if it caused offence though.

Thanks.  It seems that I have more to learn about website banter.

But I still like him!
He's not off to Liverpool is he? He'll be about 29th in their pool (sorry) of midfielders if Kenny has his way with acquisitions.

All points to him going Louzie at the moment.

I wonder how much Wright Phillips would cost to rescue from City. I know he is hit and miss, but I still reckon he could add something.

I'm not sure how much use we'd get out of a Gary Coleman impersonator though. Is there much call for that kind of thing at corporate events?

N'Zogbia and Foster are in the very good category as I see it. Possibly excellent.

Never rated N'zogbia. seems to be virtually unplayable about 2 or 3 times a season when he turns it on, the rest of the time, barely adequate.
